Appropriate things to give overnight host?

I was wondering what the typical norm was for thanking a host during an overnight. Some of the older threads say chocolates or a giftcard is enough. Would wine + handwritten card be an appropriate gift?

I wouldn't expect anything either. If I'm an overnight host, it's because I volunteered.

Edit: I would expect that you not leave my place in shambles. That'd be the perfect thank you.
