I know we're supposed to list everything that's on our transcripts, including AP courses, but my transcript simply says

UNIVERSITY REQUIREMENTS
ENTRY LEVEL WRITING---------------SATISFIED
AMERICAN HISTORY--------------------SATISFIED

TRANSFER CREDIT
ADVANCED PLACEMENT-------------- 1 TERM TO 10/2011----52 units

So since each AP class I took for a total of 52 units isn't listed, do I just not put it on the AADSAS app? What if I want to use the AP Lit exam that I got a 5 on to count for part of the English requirement?? On my unofficial student transcript it shows I was given 8 units for passing that AP exam (somewhat shown by the "ENTRY LEVEL WRITING" part). That's really the only one I care about and I don't know why they decided to leave it off the damn official copy...

I am having the same issue with IB exams I took in high school and received credits for certain college courses. On my unofficial transcript and academic history report, the scores of my exams were on there in addition to the transfer credits that each pertains to, but on my official it only shows ten transfer credits but nothing more. When I called yesterday for another question they said to copy from the official since it would result in little to no confusion when they process the application. But after I received my official today I gave them another call and they told me to call the registrar office of the university and ask what those credits pertain to exactly and that I might need to add those credits as coming from a second college? I was pretty confused by what he was telling me and it wasn't getting any clearer when I asked again. I will probably call my registrar office first thing Monday morning and probably call AADSAS again to see what exactly I should do. Don't know the answer to your question so sorry about that but you're not alone. If anyone has had or is having this issue right now and knows how to go about it that would be great.

I'll call and ask on my end monday and I'll let you know what I find out! Please feel free to do the same 😉

In general, courses for AP credit are done in conjunction with a local community college. Transfer courses from any college or university will appear on the transcript on the college you transferred to as a summary of courses taken elsewhere, just as they are written in your post. For AADSAS purposes, you will need to get an official transcript from the institution which had the affiliation with your high school.

Unfortunately, doc toothache is completely wrong. AP credits have nothing to do with a community college and the tests are administered through college board. As for IB, I know nothing about that. For you nonociceptors, on AADSAS, there is an option for "Advanced Placement course" in the description for the course and then there is an area to put the grade. I'm not sure what you should put for the course description though.

Just as a heads up, you will most likely have to contact your registrar and receive a statement that is signed stating each ap class and it's course equivalent, along with the amount of credits it is worth. Otherwise, some dental school won't accept the credit because it does not show what classes you have credit for on the official transcript.

That would 99.999% of the time. The post should have read "dual courses" rather than AP, which is a different animal. Nonetheless, it will be a challenge to have the registrar provide the student with a "statement that is signed stating each ap class and it's course equivalent" as you suggested.

Yep this is exactly what I did!

...it may have been difficult when you were in school. But, it is very common in the current application process because that's the only way to verify your AP credit. And the original post is about AP classes, not dual courses.

Did they send you a form when you called and you mailed it to AADSAS?

No. I honestly am not 100% sure what you should put on the AADSAS. I would email someone for help about that. The form from the registrar will need to be sent to each school you apply to individually in order to prove that you have completed the prerequisites.

I'll call the registrar office. But my situation right now is I have 10 credits that transferred from IB exams but the courses that they fulfilled credit for weren't prerequisite courses for dental school or even for my major. Does it even really seem necessary to do this if they don't pertain to either?

Pretty cool registrars.

On my Transcript I have:
Advanced Placement Credit, the date "attended" and then transfer credit earned: 44 credits
However, when adding a course to the application, the max credits is 20. So do I have to enter this 3 times (20, 20, 4) ??

On my application, I wrote out the course equivalents for my AP credits. So, lest say you have 44 AP credits and they show up as a lump some on your transcript. I would write on the AADSAS each individual course that you used your AP credit for and how many credits it is worth.

Actually, I had a similar problem, and I emailed AADSAS. They told me to just put in 20, and that the schools would have the real transcripts, anyway. They also told me to call each school to ask whether they need more specifications of the AP credit.

Just a quick warning though, i had this exact same problem and ended up contacting my registrar. They said they would write an official letter with my AP credits and the course equivalents I earned at my university. But some schools don't even accept this.

On OHSU's website it says " No other document, such as a transfer credit report, an unofficial transcript or a letter from an academic advisor, will fulfill this requirement." They are talking about AP credits....so I guess the only way they accept it is if its on your official transcript ONLY. Idk if there are any other schools out there with this policy...but just a fyi.

I really wanna apply to OHSU...so what I'm doing is just taking the courses I got the AP credits for at my university anyways even though I already got credits for them...just for the sake of them appearing on my transcripts...

My AP credits were for english 100 and psych 100...which are prereqs to some schools...so I'm just thinking they would prefer actual coursework anyways and I have the room to take more classes so why not...

Do any of you have any other suggestions?

I did the same as you from the start and took the classes anyway even if I received credit for them. That pushed me down to having only 10 credits from IB exams and the courses that they fulfilled credit for do not apply to courses I need for dentistry prereqs or even for my major. Do you think I should worry about posting the exact courses that I received those 10 credits for on my application? I am applying to OHSU too as one of my schools and since they do not want another document I am thinking of just not worrying about it since those 10 credits do not pertain to anything that I need.

I had issues with this last year. I only took one English class in college and otherwise I had AP credit. If you can't get your registrar to write a letter explaining it (I did, she was sooo nice and sent it to like 13 schools for me), I would ask the dental school if you can have an official transcript sent directly to them. The problem is that schools never have a chance to see your official transcripts otherwise because they are just sent to AADSAS, and there's not really a way for AADSAS to put the AP credits on your app as class-specific for pre-reqs. I also emailed every single school I applied to explaining the situation and asking if they needed additional information from me - I was a liberal arts major and had a very intensive reading/writing major so I also explained the classes I took that involved writing multiple papers or very long papers (one school responded back and asked for proof of my AP scores - I sent them and immediately after received an interview). If your AP classes don't count for pre-reqs, I would say don't even worry about all this extra stuff.

Edit: To the OP - is the transcript you've pasted above part of your official transcript? I only ever had an unofficial transcript copy, and it basically said the same thing, just the total amount of my AP credits. My official transcript (according to my registrar) specified what classes they correlated with.

@nonociceptors Did you ever find out if your official transcript listed each AP class? I'm in a similar situation as you were. And if your official didn't list one by one, how did you resolve this problem/prove to dental schools you got AP credit?

the official transcript didn't list them. My problem resolved itself because I was accepted into the dental program at my undergrad university so it was easy for them to verify that I received credit for the english courses I needed. I think if you end up somewhere else where they don't have access to your entire record, you'd have to send them copies of your AP results. For now don't worry too much about it, list as on your transcript and then contact schools individually later on in the process after you interview.
