^ I think that’s why years ago when the idea of pre-med popped up in my head in high school (not serious at the time) & I looked them up I was like: “Why does this feel sort of limiting?”didnt read thread besides op but in general I'm of the mind that any student capable of getting into a BS/MD program this day and age is more than capable of getting into medical school and the BS/MD takes away the only benefit I can think of of doing undergrad before med school: having time, flexibility, and opportunities to explore a variety of careers and options. BS/MD programs are an excellent deal for the medical schools and generally a very bad deal for students, IMO.
Ofc, I didn’t want to commit to pre-med in my formative teen years, but life experience (aka time breeding maturity) taught me that I’m okay being on that path *now*. Briefly skimming some of the responses here, it sounds like any student who wanted to explore their options or live some life first would agree that wouldn’t have been their 1st.
But back to the topic of even starting this thread in the first place, I can’t really knock on someone’s anxiety too hard, much less their pride in personal accomplishments when it comes to prestige. Everybody makes different choices & is capable of different things for different reasons. If you know what kind of student you are and accept where you’re at & what you’ve managed to accomplish thus far, there’s really no need to look back on those options. At the end of the day, comparison of chosen paths (ones that are left in the yesteryear) on SDN will only rob you of some time you could spend maybe… idk relaxing.
I don’t know you, OP - but you’ll be happier learning “how to do nothing”, when there’s gonna be a whole lot of somethings for you to do in your career ahead. This isn’t a topic to stress over, as I’m sure there are other things you would find more fulfilling with what time left you have in UG.
