I was wondering in general if pharmacy schools allow their current students on the interview panel/adcoms or do they only allow PharmD graduates?

When I was in pharmacy school I got to sit in on interviews and ask questions alongside a faculty member. Afterwards we would usually talk about the candidate and exchange opinions. But I don't think any students are on the committee that chooses the incoming class.

When I interviewed at Midwestern, they had a student sit on the interview panel. I don't know if he made decisions regarding admissions, but watch out for students! They always ask the trickest/most difficult questions!

One of my professors was on an interviewer when she was a student. She did on-one-on interviews with the applicants as well as full panel interviews. During the one-on-one interviews applicants would often be more honest/forthcoming because she was a student herself. This worked against the applicants when they shared stories/info they should have kept to themselves!

Moral of the story: Treat any students you encounter on interview panels the same way you would any other interviewer. I will say in my experience student interviewers are often the friendliest/nicest. My school doesn't use students on their interview panels, which makes me kinda sad. I would have liked to experience that (as someone giving the interview).

at my UT-memphis interview I was interviewed by a faculty member + a P2.

I was on Pacific's ADCOM Interviewer panel for two years... There is one student from each year.

It varies from school to school however.

When I was a student, my school had a policy of each applicant being assigned a student ambassador when they came to the interview. The ambassador would show them around, take them to and from their interview and to the writing exercise. And talk to them and make them feel at ease. And then write the evaluation of the student marking everything from attire to professionalist to attitude to communication skills. And whether we believed the student would fit in with the student body.

At my school, interviews for entrance into the professional phase of pharmacy had one faculty + one alumni w/ pharm D. I haven't heard of current students taking part in the interview panel.

University of Colorado and Shenandoah have student interviewers.

You're anonymous on a message board, what's the big deal?

This board is hardly anonymous - i was added to the admissions committee in part for my activities on this board. You have likely shared what school you go to, what year academically, your personality, etc.

It isn't difficult to learn who you are. That being said, there is a certain accountability that is lost being anonymous.

Sworn to secrecy, go check out the fraternities thread for more examples

But fraternities are secret organizations, they say so themselves! Is pharmacy school like Skull and Bones now?

You think I would have this scar from being branded if it weren't?

So potential students do not know what to expect when they are going in for an interview? Does that make it more exciting?

Thrills upon thrills. 😀
Check interview feedback section. Should be enough to pull any "secrets" from. Srsly??
Conveniently, our school isn't in there. Honestly, they make you sign a NDA saying you won't reveal what went on in the interview. I'm not really sure why though, because it isn't anything out of the ordinary. Makes you more candid I suppose. If you know exactly what certain people ask or what they specifically want, you have an advantage.

For the Class of 2013, Touro did have student ambassadors grading the applicants on behavior, dress, attitude, and how fun of a person they are (when we asked what your hobbies and interests are, replying with "studying" or "research" was an automatic ZERO on the score.)

However, the school decided not to continue with the student ambassadors for the Class of 2014 since the faculty started complaining that a lot of the students were using the interview process as an excuse to miss classes and delay project deadlines.

I really like our ambassador program. After the interviews, take them on a tour and take them to the cafeteria. Free lunch that day, free pass to use another day, 1.5 hours of community service. Sweet deal.

Admissions Committee student status isn't necessarily private / confidential information. At Creighton we have appx. 5 students (P2, P3) per year on the application committee, and I believe at least a couple P4 students on the interview committee.

Creighton students are also encouraged to participate in other committees along with faculty, such as the Curriculum Committee.

Far as I know, that's regarding privacy of your enrollment, grades, etc. I don't see how an admissions interview would fall into the law.

The interview process is only a third of the Adcoms role. We first read your application (from pharmcas) and grade it. This information is absolutely covered by ferpa. The grading determines interviews... At the interview day, we rate and then compare each interviewee. This rating is also covered by ferpa. After all of the interviews are done (March), we develop the final class roster and alternate list / ranking.

Every bit of paper is bound to the students app and is protected by ferpa. Most people have no idea how much effort goes into admissions. I spent every Saturday morning for nearly two months reading apps. This doesn't include the actual interviews or the final selection process.

I can see that information about students being protected. However, the agreements we had to sign were basically "we will not talk about what happened during the interview." Nothing about disclosing ratings or pharmcas grades.

Although, as far as ferpa goes, I believe you have the right to know the information that is kept about you. Would be kind of cool to know exactly how you scored on your interview or how they ranked your pharmcas.
