I'm non-trad and compiling a school list. It's a potential school list, I guess you could say. I take my MCAT this Fall, so I may add/remove schools. A friend of mine, who is a practicing D.O. down south, told me that there were a fair number of folks in their late twenties in his class. Are D.O. schools generally more non-trad friendly than M.D. schools? Are there any schools (MD or DO) which accept a decent amount of people over, say, 25? This is purely out of curiosity. Thanks in advance! 🙂

Age = number D.O schools dont care about.

Focus on slaying the MCAT and boosting your application.

There was always a good mix of traditional/ non-traditional students at my interviews. My school has a solid amount of non-trad people in it

I'm non-trad as well and it was the fact that AACOM was so open to non-trads that really got me looking into becoming a DO. The information book they put out is very convincing in regards to how they value non-trads.

I would say at least a third (maybe even half) of my class at KYCOM is non-traditional. Many are 25-30, and a number of them are married with kids. I was kind of surprised to be one of the few who came straight out of undergrad (and without a spouse). I would say your chances are very good! I can't speak for MD schools, but being non-traditional is definitely not something DO schools will hold against you.

Yes, I currently have ppl in their 30s and even early 40s in my class. Ask yourself where do you want to be - with tons of traditional kids who just came out of college (mostly MD) or ppl who are mature like you at your age? Not saying MD students aren't as mature btw.
