Are DO specialization options restricted?

Oh man are you kidding me. DO is medical school. DOs specialize in all fields.DocRo said:I was wondering if DOs are not able to specialize in certain fields and aren't able to practice certain fields since they do not attend med school.

This is the funniest thread I've read in a while. Good trolling.
I love how all these new people come to SDN with 0 posts to piss people off and you guys actually answer them back... don't feed the trolls! 😀 😀

It's not someone with down syndrome - it's someone with funny glasses, buck teeth, making a funny face.
Okay all of you need to calm down b/c this was an innocent question since I am completely new to this and was obviously misinformed. However, I am actually happy to see such strong responses because it gives a definite "no" to my question.

As silly as the OP's question sounded I actually had a good friend of mine ask me something similiar.
He is an MSII at a MD school. We were chatting one day and he said, "So are you getting excited about starting medical school. Ooops, you don't mind me calling it that do you?" Well DUH!!!!!!!!!!! What else would you call it? He even applied to a number of DO schools and was accepted at PCOM, so he knows DO school is medical school. Oh no, I guess his MD school corrupted his brain

While DO's can match into anything there are still many competitive MD specialties that have biases against them.
The question of whether DOs have a hard time specializing is usually innocent. The suggestion that DO schools aren't medschools is what seemed blatantly inflammatory.
jtorres said:well of its not, its not. i apologize, i think it is though. either way i dont mean to steal your thunder. i just have a softness for those who never had a fair chance in life.
To be honest it never even occurred to me that it may be. Either way I changed it.

If you're still not convinced DO school is medical school go to the following links.

Forgive me for asking- I am new to SDN, but what is a troll? Is it bad etiquette to post a new thread if you are a newcomer?OnMyWayThere said:I love how all these new people come to SDN with 0 posts to piss people off and you guys actually answer them back... don't feed the trolls! 😀 😀

On the Internet troll is a slang term used to describe:
1. A post (on a newsgroup, or other forum) thought to be intended to incite
controversy or conflict or cause annoyance or offense.
2. A person who posts these.
.
Thanks for the info- I do suspect there are some non-premed students out here- like the people who respond to reassurance requests by saying "you don't have a chance"
But- is it considered rude to start posting threads and asking questions when you are a newcomer?

remember you can take USMLE I. If you score higher than your MD counterparts what are they going to say. They are going to look like idiots. And to give you heads up the cheif resident in Neurology at MCV is a DO. And there is one at George Washington as well.

hmmm, a friend was telling me DO's are rare in DC area??? anyone know if this is true, is it primarily b/c its not a rural area at all? I know DO's don't all practice in rural areas, but many do...so i'm asking.
Also, anyone heard of any DO's in Neonatology???
THANKS 😀

In the greater D.C. area surrounding Manassas there were ~15 DOs listed in the that area's phone book. I never checked all the other phone books for the area (there are so many phone books). There are more DOs in Alexandria and Arlington then they are in Manassas. The DO that interviewed me for my LOR is the distric head of VOMA (Virginia Osteopathic Medicine Association. Plus VCOM has someone on their board of directors in the area as well.
They aren't plentiful but don't DOs make up only ~10% of all doctors.

a troll is a person who comes into a pre-DO thread and claims DO schools are not medical schools
i.e.
1. A post (on a newsgroup, or other forum) thought to be intended to incite
controversy or conflict or cause annoyance or offense.
2. A person who posts these.
