If you have to go to boot camp during the summers, where's the time to do externships and research? How do having these military duties affect your chances at specializing down the road?

You go to military officers course (different name for each branch of service) during one summer or immediately after you graduate. The other summers you usually get school orders since you wouldn't have time for your annual training because of summer clinic (depends on the school you attend).
