Are the work hours published in Freida generally accurate for pathology programs? The other Freida data? Are they accurate for your program? Can anything be implied about the programs that chose not to complete the Freida questionnaire?

Depends. It is probably an average of work hours over many rotations. Some of them list 40-45 hours per week. No way that is representative of surgical pathology.

If it's reported as really high or really low, then it might be worth specifically inquiring about with the PD. But you're generally going to get a much more accurate idea by asking residents at, or recently from, that program. Programs who don't fill that part out may or may not have a good reason. Frankly, much of the time the admin/secretary filling in those blanks probably has little to no idea, particularly if they happen to be from over in GME and used to filling it in for med/surg. And, of course, some rotations may be very low-intensity in terms of in-house workload, while others (usually surgpath) require more time, so an overall "average" can be very misleading.

Agree, just get it straight from the residents. Who only knows how accurate (or inaccurate) the Frieda numbers are.

Agree with the others. There's a huge difference between services, and, for example, newly minted first-years vs. second and third years, etc. The FREIDA numbers can be very misleading.

Ignore it and ask how the work day is and all that during your interviews when you meet with residents. If you don't meet with residents, don't bother going on the interview at all.

The work day and work week (how many weekends/month) is the best way to get to the heart of this issue, but I think the Frieda hours are correct overall. Surg path months skew everything higher but we've never come close violating duty hours.
