are my chances devastated?

a. i'm a sophomore
b. my cumulative GPA currently is a 2.79 (always taken 18 hours every sem)
c. my fall 2007 term GPA was a 2.5 (took 18 hours. bad idea!)
d. my major is biology BA degree (thinking of switching to Health Sciences major, want to add an easy minor for GPA boost, but don't know what [ideas appreciated])

1. dad expects 3.6+ GPA
2. 5th-year senior is not an option for me. otherwise, i'm left to fund 30K on my own, which i can't do.
3. very iffy about loans...
4. if i can't get it to 3.0 by this spring 08 semester i lose scholarships and parents will drop me out of college.

does this mean i'll have to score all A's in 18 credit hours next semester to raise it up to 3.0 ~ 3.2?
obviously, i want an education and i try but with 18 hours, it's pretty hard not to get burned out after the first round of tests...which is precisely my problem. should i take summer school every session + december classes to raise it up high?

sorry for the sad post but wanna know my chances. any and all advice appreciated 👍

p.s. - i'll actually listen to your words (unlike that one thread not too long ago with the freshman.....)

One thing what i would suggest for freshman/sophomore level courses is to take easier professors.
i dont know about your college but at my college freshman courses are taught by 2-3 different professors in the same semesters. and that goes for sci and non sci classes.
use myprofessorsucks.com to know about the professor before ur register for the class.
I have played around A LOT with my course schedule to take good professors and that DOES make a big difference.
Another thing, if u could...try to take easy general education courses to boost your gpa. this kid in my engineering major used to get around 2.0 and was ultimately kicked out of school of engineering. He got into school of Businees by boosting up his gpa. he took all general education courses this sem and his term gpa was 3.7 or something....
so take those courses which u like...in which u have previous knowledge.....
bottom line "DONT WORK HARD, WORK SMART"

Assuming you take similar units every quarter, you will need around a 3.9 next semester to get your overall above that 3.0 mark.

I think having a lighter courseload during the school year and save those classes for summer is a great idea. During my undergrad, I was kinda pushed to finish my cell bio degree in 3 years (Well, it really is 4 but I partied so hard my first year that I barely took any major classes). I had 14-15 units load per quarter but I took 6-7 units in summer as well.

if by general education you mean things like sociology, psychology, geography, etc. then i've completed 99% of my social sciences for degree requirements

for the spring 08, i'm enrolled in 16 hours composed of
chem lab - counts 3 hours and heard it's a b!tch
bio lab - heard it's pretty fun
bio II - got a good professor 👍
chem II - got a good professor 👍
cal II - i suck at math so this will take up a lot of my time
theater appreciation (2 hours) - easy A
a P.E. course (1 hour) - easy A

check those professors name on myprofessorsucks.com
try to change ur chem lab instructor....
yes by general education i meant those courses....
so u have been taking general education courses in freshman yr.....
i would just say play around with ur schedule....
also (this is in my college) off semester courses are easier for some reason.....
i took BIO 1 in spring semester which is suppose to be taken in fall semester....and it was MUCH MUCH easier........
even many other courses, i have taken it in off semesters....
and since i dont like studying my general education courses for 15 weeks....i took those over the summer when professors cant teach much and less work load or papers to write.....

Honestly I'm not sure you can raise it up to a 3.0 in just one semester. It would be very difficult, especially if you take less credits. However, I am very certain that you can raise your GPA up far beyond a 3.0 by the time you graduate. Your grades are not at the dental school level yet, but it is very clear by your post that you are ambitious. Work hard and persist and it will come. Best of luck!
