Hi all!

Quick question on this:

So I know that R selected species are sometimes called opportunistic.

And in Primary succession, you see pioneer species, which are the first ones to help make the new environment thrive (usually R-selected from what I've read)

Are R-selected, opportunistic, and pioneer species all used interchangeably?

Could someone clarify this for me?

Thanks as always!

Pioneer species possess the qualities of R selected species and they are opportunistic, that's why they can survive the tough environment.
But you wouldn't necessarily call all opportunistic species pioneer species.
