Are some IPPE rotations just bad setups?

If you do them in the school year you can work as an intern...I don't know anyone who had a hard time getting an internship because of that. You just work on the days you don't have IPPE.

There's only 2 ways to do it during the school year....full-time for like 2-3 weeks or once a week for the semester. Neither of those are an issue.

You can still work when you have IPPE. You shouldn't be at your IPPE more than 8 hours a day and if your preceptor tries to keep you there for longer than that, they are *****s.

Not sure why working and IPPE are mutually exclusive. 😕

Now if you want to make an argument that IPPEs are useless, I could get behind that.

When I was on my IPPEs, I stilled worked every other Saturday at a retail chain. Then once IPPE was over they switched me back to 2-3 nights a week + every other Saturday.

My school has this rule: You cannot hold any paid job during your IPPE duration. I can't tell you the name of my school because of identity issue, though.
I'm worried that I can't get an internship because the only time I can work is 2 months in the summer. I don't have a car so I can't drive around to look for jobs near my dorm (my school is far away from home)...

This doesn't sound right... Are you sure its you can't hold any paid job at the location in which you're doing your IPPE during your IPPE? I.e if you are employed by Joe's Pharmacy you can't do your IPPE at Joe's pharmacy if still want to work at the same time. I don't see why for any reason the school has (nor can enforce) any rule that if you work at Main St. Hospital Pharmacy you can't do your IPPE at Joe's Pharmacy at the same time.

I know some schools strongly frown upon community IPPEs or APPEs that are done at chains students currently work for, could be the same if you work at a hospital. I.e. Work at XYZ Pharmacy #12, they strongly steer you away from any XYZ pharmacy for an IPPE/APPE experience.

Asking students to give up their paid position and relationship with their employer seems toxic for their students' future, especially in the current state of affairs.

Yeah there's no way the school can tell you you can't have a paid position while at an IPPE at a different site.

I worked 40 hours (really more like 30-35) a week at my IPPE and 40 hours a week at my regular job over the summer. Totally doable.

never heard of this rule. wasn't the case in my university but if it is in others, it seems a little ridiculous that the school is not only going to charge you 70 G's a year for tuition but also not allow you to work to pay off some of that ridiculous price tag while you are there. What a country
