I find myself coming on this forum more and more as I try to study for physics using EK series.

Please provide any insight you can about the comparison between the current MCAT physics vs EK 1001 physics questions?

I am trying to build confidence by practicing in the EK physics 1001 book, but EVERYTIME I think I have grasped the concepts, it seems that I am hit with questions that seem to be more and more difficult to set up, let alone solve. I am beginning to get discouraged about my abilities to do well. Honestly, I was never really any good at physics in high school or college (even with tutoring).

Are the real MCAT problems this difficult?

I am looking for responders who have used EK and taken the MCAT in the last 2 years. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

I don't know about the Physics, but I feel that the EK chemistry is a lot more difficult! So the Physics is probably a lot more difficult as well.

from my experience,

EK gen chem 1001 was the best out of all 1001s because it was relevant and not as hard

EK orgo 1001 was 3 days worth of problems that were relatively easy but good at cementing basics of orgo (a lot of errors though, so be careful)

EK physics was really hard... because real mcat is conceptual based not as problem-based as EK physics... nevertheless it's really good if you wanna go up and beyond... You can tell if some q's are unnecessary

EK bio was waste of time

I think physics is definitely harder than the others.
I have chem, ochem, and physics, and in my opinion, physics had a lot of calculation questions that are not possible to get with one simple calculation, which was usually not the case for AAMC FLs.
When I did AAMC problems, as soon as I figured out what equation to use, the answer was pretty easy and straight forward to get. Usually it was the wording that was a bit tricky. So yeah, don't let the EK1001 discourage you. Just think of it as insurance.

I didn't like the 1001 questions series at all. They weren't necessarily too easy or hard. They just felt like a completely different style from the aamc questions. I felt like the 1001 questions were testing for specific things that were mentioned in the EK content review books (which isn't bad, but it's repetitive and doesn't really broaden your knowledge).

I found most of the 1001s to be unhelpful. I did SN2's schedule and regret wasting 4-5 hours once a week doing those problems. O-Chem and Gen Chem may be passable but physics was way too difficult and doesn't prepare you for the MCAT at all. Don't worry about those ridiculously hard questions, I didn't encounter them on any of the FLs or my actual exam.

BeancheBlanco and coyotetime hit the nail square on the head. That describes the physics and g chem books perfectly.

I stopped using them early in my prep, but temptation has brought me back to trying some when I'm tired of doing passages from other books. Every time I think "what a waste of time." God forbid you don't know the material well, because the unrealistic questions coupled with terrible (and I mean terrible) explanations is a formula for disaster.

Thanks for the reassurance coyotetime. I know in my head that the MCAT won't be like that, but the doubts creep up as it gets closer and I panic thinking I should be doing 1001s to cover my bases.

Actually I have to disagree, at least for my practice AAMC there were some questions that I would have had a really hard time solving had I not done the EK 1001. I'm not saying this will happen all the time, but it does help you find out what kind of weaknesses you have as far as contents go.
You definitely don't know how to do every single problem in the EK1001, but when you look at a problem and have no idea what the question is asking about or how to approach it, then it means there's a gap in your content, and that you need some reinforcing/reminding.
If you feel like you're weak in a certain area, it definitely helps you solidify the knowledge since it lets you practice the skill and knowledge needed by doing actual problems, rather than just reading about it.
So, as long as you take it with a grain of salt (I mean some problems are just ridiculous-stuff that wouldn't even show up as textbook problems), I think they could be a useful tool.
