Guys are you considred copetitive and looked at evenly when you only have he minimum requirements? You a year of bio , chem , o chem etc.. ?\\\

THANKS

Sorry about the original post. Let me correct myself from using a diffiuclt keyboard. My question is are you competitive and is your application looked at no differently say if you only have the minimum prerequisites? A year of bio , chem , o chem etc?

Thanks

Also, each school has a list of other courses they would like to see. They often include: Biochemistry, Anatomy, Pysiology, Histology, Microbiology, Genetics, etc.

Try to take some of those instead of just filler classes.

just look at it this the adcom's perspective: would you want an applicant who strives for the bare minimum or one that puts forth the effort to be ready for dental school?

kinda reminds me of the button scene with jennifer aniston from office space.

This really depends on your undergraduate major. If you are attempting to gain admission without completing you bachelors’ degree then the minimum requirements will probably not suffice. However, if you are a non life science major then the minimum requirements will probably be sufficient provided you do well in them. Adcoms like to have diversity in their class so a literature or fine arts or physics or engineering major (etc.) might be very well looked upon. Ultimately it is important to do well over all especially in the pre-requisites. If you are for example a fine arts major be sure to address why you have an interest in dentistry and what your unique perspective brings to the field (an understanding of esthetics etc.).

 You beat me to it.

Stan: "Some people like to do more than the minimum and we encourage that. We want people to express themselves. You do want to express yourself, right? Look at Bryan he's wearing 37 pieces of flair and a wonderful smile."

(jeez, couldn't find that scene quoted, so not quite correct...)

Yes they are fine, but a degree seals the deal.

I agree w/ starcity and the other similar posts. I was able to get an acceptance w/ only the min. reqs. (I also had a degree and fairly decent stats.)

i think only the kids who screwed up majorly have to go beyond a 4-year degree to get in.

theres simply no other reason why someone would want to earn a masters before applying to dental school.

that would be really stupid in my opinion.

IMO Don't waste you time with all that other hocus pocus, just do well in the regular prereqs, thats all I did and had no problem at all. Disclaimer: All other stats being equal of course.

Yes, just the minimum pre-reqs are enough. If you're a competitive applicant you don't need any more science classes than that, but you definitely do need a degree.

This is great news for us post-bacs. Thanks for the information.
