Are there any MD or DO schools that do not employ affirmative action in admissions?

Hmm... why is everyone responding to a troll?

:troll::troll:
I was trying to have a serious discussion about institutional racism in this country and how it relates to school admissions. If you would prefer not to post on a difficult topic, then don't say anything. But please don't call me a troll.

Not sure why you think that, but what "controversies" are you referring to? Defending black men from getting shot at by racist white cops?
Apparently you don't watch the news then. The Dallas shooting, though not supported by probably most BLM activists, is associated with the movement. The week before, there was a controversy that angered a lot of LGBT people. BLM was invited to be marshals at the Pride Parade. They set off smoke bombs and sat down in the middle of the street to stop the parade while they protest. They are also demanding that police be completely banned from future LGBT events.

That's just the last couple of weeks. You can search for more controversies if you like.

LOL at your white male privilege. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Ahh, the root of your crisis has been identified, we are finally getting somewhere. You hate being a white male, but that's ok, as often, admitting your angst is the first step to a solution.

Still, I can't tell if your dreamatroll or the cubicle failure. Probably the latter.

Second thing your mother should have taught you: If you have nothing nice to say, don't say it all.

What other group is standing up to the overwhelmingly racist, abusive police force? It must be nice to have such a morally superior position.

Said the white male pretending to be a African American female.
You still haven't said if you support BLM or not. You'd think with all the personal attacks on me, you could have answered that.

Maybe you should post in the sociopolitical forum?

What makes you think that they're not accepting such applicants???

But there's a caveat here. No med school is doing none any favors by accepting someone who would be at high risk for failing out of med school, like having a poor MCAT score.

What exactly is my morally superior position?

To be frank, if they were accepting more URM applicants, doctors would be a whole lot blacker now than they are, wouldn't they?

Occupying some noble idea but not willing to actually work the group that's doing the most to fight against racist whites and racist cops.

I've been trying to figure out how your response relates to what Goro said and after several minutes I've got nothing

Pretty juicy topic to troll on but you can't be this incoherent and still be convincing

You can think whatever you want to think. Doesn't change the fact that there are too many blacks being shot in the street by whites.

What does that even mean? I disagree with the behavior of BLM. I also have a police relative who is on disability and almost died because he didn't react harshly enough during an arrest allowing himself to be attacked, so I don't believe this issue is just cops being racist either. BLM is way too black-and-white on issues for my taste, so I prefer a group with a more rational approach.

And that doesn't change that fact that you were asking why the AAMC wouldn't come out in support of BLM. You were not asking why I personally won't support BLM

I guess you're against BLM and its ideals then. Not surprised that the current medical student body is racist (what with hardly any URMs getting in and all). And you still haven't explained why the AAMC won't endorse White Coats 4 Black Lives. If we keep being ignored, pretty soon we're going to be doing protests like this at medical events:

I really hope you are trolling now. If not, then you fall under the irrational category I mentioned before. Not supporting the actions of BLM=/= being racist.

And no one said that the AAMC did not endorse White Coats for Black Lives. https://www.aamc.org/newsroom/reporter/february2015/426080/word.html You never asked about WC4BL- I was the one who mentioned.

But since you have made it clear that you will respond to comments before even reading them and you aren't interested in a discussion, I will no longer respond to you

You're the one who can't have a discussion. All lives don't matter. Black lives matter.

I don't think there's anything you could change about medical admissions to solve the violence in the streets

If you're sincere about all this, go re-read Goro's answer, and LizzyM's. Only about 1/4th of AA applicants have a 27+ on the MCAT. The fix has got to be improving the early education that leads up to college and the MCAT. There are thousands of applicants every year (about 1/3rd of total) with an MCAT of 20 or lower, that are at risk of failing to graduate/pass Steps if admitted

Perhaps you shouldn't jump to conclusions. I'm African-American and I wanted to know which universities don't care enough about African-American representation in medicine. There needs to be more affirmative action, particularly when there are young black men being killed all across this country.
Welcome back, AB.

Nothing more annoying than a martyr complex. I really dislike this black lives matter movement and how self-absorbed the people in it are.

Racist much? It's the complacency of people like you why innocent young black men are dying in the street every day. #BlackLivesMatter

It is less the message and more the methods of BLM that people disagree with. The actions of police in many of these cases is completely deplorable. However, some are justified uses of force- I suppose that is a big problem with BLM, the assumption of police wrongdoing regardless of circumstances. In any case, even one unjustified killing is too many, and we need to work to address the fact that we have a police force that views citizens as enemy combatants rather than people to be served and protected.

Has anyone done any protests to raise awareness about white privilege at their schools? The students at Dartmouth did this great one:

How is it racist at all? People like you are just incredibly annoying. This is a forum for people trying to become doctors. It's not a soapbox for your unrelated cause. The fact that people like you think you deserve to go anywhere and interrupt others so that you can spew your propaganda is very conceited. And I have nothing to do with anyone's death in the street. I just choose not to amplify differences between people by defining myself with something that I think makes me special.

Umm...you said you didn't support BLM. Black lives do matter!!! I am not trying to amplify differences, I am fighting for what is right. I am trying to become a doctor, too. Not sure how you graduated medical school without the slightest understanding of biopsychosocial issues.
