Are these classes considered BCPM

I know it's a stupid question but I'm taking many health science classes and I'm confused if they should be counted as BCPM???

I'm studying to be a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Med. Tech.)

These are all under Health Science Title (HAD)

Introduction to Clinical Lab Sci

Phlebotomy (I can actually get certified under this class)

Hematology

Blood Bank Lab

Research for Hospital (class where I help with hospital research)

Clinical Micro, Immuo, Blood Bank, Hema (I get sent out to hospitals to learn under real Clinical Laboratory Scientists)

Mycology and Parasitology

Medical Ethics

Intro Cytogenetics

Forensics

Pathology

Yes I'm actually required to take all of these classes!!!!

I'm pretty sure that if these courses are taught through the Health Science department then they come under the abbreviation HEAL on the AMCAS.

Uh ohh. all my classes are under Health Science. What about physiology, biochemistry, statisitic, and microbiology all under Health Science??? None of these counts towards my BPCM??? I'm screwed!!!!

You still have physics I & II, chem I, II, o-chem 1 & 2 and modern biology I & 2 plus any labs that go with those classes toward the BCPM. For most people, that's 32 credits.

Physiology, biochem, and microbio should all be able to go on your BPCM.

any HEALTH class will be under "health" and not under BCPM. examples like taht are any kines class.

go the AMCAS website, go to 2008 AMCAS Instruction Book. on like page 48 it starts a list of classes and what categories they fall under. that will tell you which ones will count. i pasted the linke below.

theh question i just recently got answered was I have taken anatomy and physiology but they are all under "kinesiology." and for AMCAS that is a health class and not a bio class so technically its not BCPM. they said if you take anatomy and physiology it will stillc ount as BCPM just when you do your app put it under biology.

Yea I hate to tell you but those classes won't count towards your BCPM GPA. I am a kines major and all my classes like that, i.e. Physiology, Neuromoter, Exercise Physiology, Motor Learning, did not count. All I can say is good luck and I hope you did well in your other science courses.

i just checked with an admissions person at a few of the UCs schools and all had pretty much the same response... they looked at past applicants from my school and said that the classes such as anatomy and human physiology (not exercise) will count towards BCPM even though they are under Kinesiology b/c the course content is no different than if it were offered under biology. below is the email response:

I looked at a few other applications from past applicants from Occidental...this seems to be a thing that is reported by you on your AMCAS application. So listing it as "health" or "biology" is up to you. You should note that whatever you list is then subject to verification by the application screeners in the AMCAS offices, but the screeners seem to let applicants list these courses as Biology courses. And rightly so...the subject matter is in line with the same anatomy and physiology courses from other schools that have this under the department of Biology.

I don't think it will be a problem.



So i would at least try and list courses such as anatomy and physiology even if they are under a "kines" category. you have nothing to lose. the other classes you mentioned i agree will not count.

I'm thinking of not listing any of my health science class as BCPM because they are kind of lowering my gpa 😀

I asked because I don't want to get in trouble when asked why I didn't list them under BCPM? 🙄

so sorry to hijack this thread, but i'm picking up a minor in nuclear science and engineering (name of the department) but am taking classes within the nuclear science part (not engineering). the amcas instructions sheet says that nuclear engineering is considered ENG, but doesn't list where to put nuclear science. i guess technically it's physics but AMCAS-wise would it fly for BCPM?

You can list the classes however you wish. AMCAS will correct you and put them in the right categories. I do think physiology, biochem, etc. will be counted as BPCM. The other ones, probably not.
