Are US Med schools this racist?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi,

Has the US got similar problems within the upper ranks of university management to those shown in this video? I'm a student in this university who's had a similar experience and am considering moving to the US.

Thanks

Umm... I don't know how much of that video is true or not, or if you are serious or not, but to simply answer your question: no.

Yes, unfortunately for myself and a few others I am serious. Just wanted to know if there were any universities to avoid really. Thanks anyway.

if anything, us schools bend over backwards to assist minorities

I don't doubt there may be racism on varying degrees in different levels of administration.
However, many schools go out of their way to accommodate students from different backgrounds.
Being a person of color can be a serious advantage when applying to medical school.

I am really not buying this...

not a single person looked into the case..
the school swapped her answer sheet..!
the school is running secret tests on the students..!!
some one hit her with a wheel chair and the video was destroyed...!

they make it sound like a national conspiracy!!

why is it not possible that the student is just delusional or mentally unstable which this video suggests...a psych evaluation perhaps..

wow you have to be a numb-nut to buy this pile of garbage !

Me troll no feed. Me edit.

I will direct you to the General Residency Issues section of the forum. Disciplinary psychiatry is supposedly not that uncommon. All it takes is a declaration of being "unfit" it end your career, and there is almost always a p-doc in the schools pocket willing to do it.

I attended the King's College London medical school this past spring semester on a study abroad program. In the five months I was there, I never heard about this. I took 3/4 of my classes with 3rd year medical students. The diversity in my classes was impressive and there was much more integration than in U.S. universities...i.e. students did not hang out in packs divided by race. Also, all med students at KCL have that pink ID. Unless someone grabbed her ID card from her wallet and scrutinized it to determine her program, I doubt it was used to discriminate against her.

No one cared what program you were in. Professors tended to poke fun at medical students (aka "medics" in english english) as a group (medics and bio majors took 1st-3rd year classes together) but no one was singled out as part of a "different" program.

This entire case is B.S.

Psychiatric discipline eh?

Many students were studying successfully at KCL without hiderence - some were not. What the naysayers here are sure of is the Virginia is a liar without knowing about her or the case. Interesting perspective to jump to without facts to the contrary - very sad.
