Are You Happy With Your School?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
only because temple has a treasure room

Cost of dental education: $250,00 plus interest
Cost of a slurpie from the 7-11: $0.99
Last 2 years of ds at UConn: utterly miserable (something you can't put a price on 🙁 )

not really....does any one else have problems getting chairs and booking appointments? it's like you pay all this money and you're ready to work, but you can't get a chair if your life depended on it. there's twice as many students as there are chairs. and if by chance you do get a chair, the patient cancels and nobody else wants to come in their place.

What school are you referring to?

I'm extremely happy with Arizona. I've nearly completed everything I need to graduate, my clinical instructors are great and treat us with respect, and the facilities are still new. No major complaints from me.

How's Arizona in the summer? Is the weather managable? Thanks.

It is extremely hot (115-120), but it is manageable just as living somewhere with snowfall is manageable. The rest of the year is gorgeous. It's 7:30 pm here right now and about 75 degrees outside.

Thanks.

NYU....one downfall....the price. The rest is lovely.

It is a great feeling. I need a complete denture, two crown preps, and one final tooth for endo (an anterior tooth to boot!). I'm taking Part 2 tomorrow and Friday, so I don't have any complaints.

Good luck on Part 2. It's a very good feeling to be almost done.

I am applying and was wondering if you could say your school and if you are happy there in general.

Thanks 🙂

i go to stony brook and i love it.
i do however hate myself and the entire world the night before the anatomy or the biochem exam.....

I've toured around 6 dental schools in the past 3 months and have to say Arizona has a "super happy pill" passed out to D1 students to last them at least four years...LOL. I couldn't believe how happy the students were and the bond most of them had. It was a cool feeling to see that...

Very happy here at Case 👍 Many nice but tough clinical instructors here have pushed us to our clinical limit. Our secretaries handle all patient's appointments and phone calls. Lots of patients, minimal lab's work, having our own chair, fee-for-service clinic are just a few perks. Have I mentioned about The Free Clinic couple blocks away ? They let us, volunteers, do restoratives in the day time and extraction in the evening.

the requirements at our school are ridiculous. Plus the fact that I live in a city where people expect free dental care, it makes getting good patients a difficult task.

other than that the faculty at our school are 50/50ish. half are scumbags and the others are good.

Man, I envy some of you that love your schools. Tennessee is in the middle of a patient crisis, we've got whacko requirements (26 crowns, around 100 operative procedures, 15 arches of removable, well over 50 extractions, etc.), and we have one of the most inept faculty/student ratios imagineable.

Oh, yeah..we also have the whole "word on the street thing". Patients know that in spring you get lots of free work. Our average student pays 2-3 grand on procedures to get out.

UGHHHHHH.

Did I miss what school you are talking about?

Thanks to the support from our local area dentists 👍 👍 👍 Case's got many referrals for those patients that seeking cheaper route for their dental care. I've got few implant, root canal, crown and perio surgery cases from them.

I am frist year at Michigan and I love it here so far. Actually people in administration try to make it easier for you and everyone is very nice around here including upper classmans and instructors. Also, every one here is willing to help you if you need help in any way and most importantly school wants you to succeed. I know that may be in later years I might have different opinion but all the people in D4 and D3 years I have talked to love it here. Michigan is definitely a great school and I think you should definitely consider it.
