you also find them somewhat comforting? That is, you already have a rhythm for how you're filling them out and you're frightened of the next steps?

I agree with this. I'm still waiting for my last LOR to come in, so I can't get any interview invites until then. So, I keep working on these secondaries, and although I'm about sick of it, I do think it's nice that I still have something to do.
