How many 45 day ADTs do Army HPSPers get? If your personal schedule allows, can you do an ADT before each school year, for a total of four? Or are you limited to three, to be performed in between each school year (starting after completion of MS1 year)?

If limited to three ADTs, I'm trying to figure out the best timing for OBC and then subsequent ADTs which are essentially de facto clerkships/interviews for future residency.

Thanks.

You do as many ADTs as the number of years you've been on the scholarship (ie 4 for 4, 3 for 3, etc).

Hope this helps.

I googled and found Army Regulation 601-141, which covers HPSP.
It states in 7(a): 1 period of ADT per each 12 months participation in the program.

Another google hit (a recruiting blurb) gave the definite impression ADT was in between school years, for a total of 3.

😕

I was at a meeting last night and they said OBC is one ADT, either before or after first year. If before, then you get the summer between first and second year off cuz you can't do rotations until after your second year. However, most students can't get time off between second and third years so the first rotation is after the third year, then you do one more for a total of 3. Since students generally can't get away from school between second and third years you still get active duty pay as if you were on ADT just doing your school's rotations.

I did 4 ADTs. First was OBC, next was 45 days at school, last two were rotations at MTF. You get one ADT per year of scholarship. If you can't leave to do it you get paid more to stay at school. You can lose them, however, if you don't apply on time.

Are you guys even on the scholarship? It's FOUR.

MSI OBC

MSII School ADT-some people actually did their first third year rotation during this time.

MSIII-ADT at end of year over the summer months

MSIV-ADT early fourth year

1+1+1+1=4

Four year scholarship=4 ADTs

yep, 4 if you have a four year scholarship. I don't know where three came from, probably someone listening to their recruiter - bad bad mistake. But how's this for a compromise - while we all get paid for FOUR ADTs, many folks only do THREE actual ADTs (OBC being one of them) due to the fact there is that window between second and third year as stated in previous posts.

So I am starting a 4 year scholarship now... I was planning on doing my OBT after MS1 b/c my best freinds wedding is this june. How would I fit in 4 ADTs? I assume I will have to do 2 in one summer (one being School ADT)... or are they just going to f*ck me and make me go to OBT this summer and miss the wedding?

After MSI: OBC
After MSII: ADT at school
After MSIII/Beginning of MSIV: Rotation ADTs. Some say you can't do two ADTs in one fiscal year (Oct-Oct), but if you talk to the right people, it can get arranged for you to do the two final ADTs in your third fiscal year (that's what I did).

Man, you haven't even started the scholarship and you already using words like f*ck me. The best is yet to come.

Cool, Thanks for that clarification. I'm coming into this knowing some wild **** might happen That I can't control and may not agree with but thats cool with me. I can thrive in any situation. Full speed ahead.

The three ADTs probably came from someone on a 3 year scholarship (of which there are a few). On another note, there are quite a few of us who use our second ADT for a clinical rotation. The only rule regarding this is that you are not allowed to do it at Tripler or Reed, the other MEDCENs and MEDACHs are available until the end of the FY of your second year.
