Just got the new PPT with the Army match rates for 2007. Here's the breakdown. The number in parenthesis is the number of available spots. The second number is the number of applicants per spot.

(Anesthesia is the third most competitive area.)

The only aberation I see is Neurosurgery. This is one very lucrative specialty and very competitive nation wide. Anesthesia is "hot" these days among medical students. They "perceive" it as a lifestyle specialty with big cash.
They are wrong and will find out we work as hard or harder than most neurosurgeons!
