Quick question.

Let's say my primary goal was to be urologist, but I'd be fine with matching into ob gyn or gen surgery. Would it be a bad idea to apply for the match with all 3 specialties ranked? With the hope of having less of a chance of not matching.

Appreciate the input.
This is mainly hypothetical. My concern is that PDs would find out and think that I'm indecisive. I'm unsure if they would be aware or if it's blinded somehow.

You will not be allowed to apply to more than one specialty. You have 5 slots in which to enter programs, and they must be of the same specialty. In the case of there being less than 5 options for a particular specialty (uro being one of them), you must put a TY slot in after listing urology preferences. I suppose you could enter OB or GS after that, but that would mean you are ranking programs 4th and 5th, and historically people don't typically get their 4th or 5th choices, especially when there is a TY listed.

I listed gen surg as my fifth slot, and it wasn't an issue. Of course, I matched higher than that. I know that theoretically you're supposed to rank TY, but I didn't and no one said anything. Keep in mind that even gen surg has been fairly competitive in the Army, and so it may not be a safe backup and they will know that they were your second choice.
