We're graduating from school and starting OBLC on June 13th. Reporting at our first duty station on Aug 2. We're a bit confused on how this is supposed to work. Does my wife move to my first duty station in June when I go to OBLC? Or am I supposed to fly back from OBLC and move the family in the few days between OBLC and when I am supposed to report (seems unlikely with being able to physically do this with driving our car in such a short time frame). How does reimbursement work for moving? Does it have to be within a certain time period of my orders?

How soon until we start getting paid? Insurance?

Thanks!

UTES, can't speak from personal experience but I went to OBC after my 1st year, there were several captains who had a rough time, they were required to report directly to their new post, their wives and kids had to deal with the movers on their own. They weren't happy about it, I can't recall all the details but for some reason they didn't have enough time to fly home and back to report. I don't know what your orders say, but mine allow for 60 days early reporting, granted I don't have to do OBC, but if you can contact the JPPSO office at the post your headed to maybe they can set something up in terms of moving your family prior to OBC. Don't know if they'll allow that though. Sorry, maybe someone else with more experience can chime in.

I would contact the location you are going to be going to and ask to speak to the Commander or to your sponser. They will be able to give you the right advice.

The nice thing about the military move is they do it all. It is a very easy process that your wife could handle without you if needed - plane tickets, movers, are all coordinated for you. If you need to help drive your family out then that is where talking to the place you are moving to will help so you know how to best accomplish that. They may have you check in first and then give you time to take care of it, or they may have a different way they do things.

If you need help finding out who to contact there PM me.
