Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knows where an Army Periodontist is likely to be stationed. Are there periodontists at all of the bases, or only certain ones?

Are periodontists more or less likely to be deployed than other specialists or general dentists.

Thank you so much to anyone who can provide any information.

I plan on doing army perio and actually have a friend who is in the residency and have talked to a few people who teach in the residency. I was told about 60-70% of periodontists stay at Fort Gordon, GA where the residency is. And periodontists aren't at all the bases, usually the major ones I was told. As far as deployment goes I wasn't told anything about that but I would assume they deploy somewhat less. Wouldn't be too concerned about deployment.

Army Perios are usually stationed where Army Prosth is stationed (so you can work together on complex cases) - so most major locations and all locations containing AEGD training programs. At Fort Gordon, you are either in residency or you are a residency mentor.

As far as deployment is concerned, it doesn't really matter what specialty you are (with exception, perhaps, for oral surgeons) - its all about the order of merit list and if you ever been deployed/how long ago was the last time you deployed/do you want to volunteer for deployment.
