Can someone enlighten me on their experiences in the Army prosth. Residency and as a prosthodontist in the Army (or military in general). I'm between AEGD and prosth and would appreciate some insight. Most importantly I'd like to here about the dentistry, like procedure mix and volume, implant placement, course work, mentorship, hours worked, etc. it would also be good to know about deployment, pay and personal life things. Thanks a lot.

The Army prosth program requires the most number of hours behind OMFS - lots of lab work. It is a 3 yr program taught down at Ft. Gordon, Ga. As an Army prosthodontist you will not be placing implants, but you will be restoring many very complex implant cases. Prosthodontists will do esthetic cases, complex rehab cases involving full mouth cases, etc... In the Army they also have the option of doing a maxillofacial prosthetic fellowship (replacing eyes, ears, noses, etc...).

Pay is the same as all other specialists (including 2 yr AEGD) except for OMFS which gets 50k more/yr. Chance of deploying is the same as any other specialist (2 yr AEGD may deploy a little more) but not as much as a general dentist.
