Are there any dentists who have or are currently an officer in the Army Reserves? I couldn't find much info about MDSSP for dentists on SDN.

They are offering the MDSSP program which pays a dental student a monthly stipend of appr $1990 per month. For every 1 year of stipend recieved 2 years of service in the Reserve is owed, and deployments would be 90 days boots on ground.

1.) Are there TOE vs. DENTAC position in the Army Reserves? Recruiter told me no.

2.) What are the depolyment cycles like? (ie: once every 18 months?)

3.) I would still graduate with about 300K in debt if i take the monthly stipend. Is this a good idea?

4.) What are the pros and cons in your (for those who have experience or know other dentists in the Reserves) experience?

*Disclaimer* I am not in the Army and can only speak from my limited knowledge

As far as I know, when an Army Reservist deploys, they are assimilated into the regular active duty Army. So it is possible that the Reserve does not have TOE slots, but you could still find yourself deployed to one. I would look into the Army National Guard since they deploy as a national guard unit, and offer the same MDSSP.
