God. Fuking India and stupid @$$ arranged marriages. Its a stupid @$$ culture to begin with and I personally am against arranged marriages.

Unfortunately I am from this cursed country and, like the rest of us, inevitably have to have this battle with my parents.

Fortunately for them, the answer is simple. I don't want to have an arranged marriage, but seeing as to how I've never had a gf or been in a relationship my entire life, I will probably have to go this route considering that I've failed at this, just like everything else.

I mean its not like anything can happen for a 21 year old guy with no experience - thats just sad and weak, and girls in med school would run the hell away from that.

Also attractive Indian girls are pressured by family to find someone by the time they get into med school, which is why 99% of them are in serious relationships by the time they are in med school since they don't have to waste time with finding someone and can focus on school. Sure there maybe that 1% but is it going to happen for me? Nah I'm never that lucky.

Ill probably have to get an arranged marriage regardless because I'm not getting into an MD school in this lifetime and will be lucky to get into a DO school. All those brown MD ladies aren't exactly going to line up for a DO - see for Indians DOs aren't "real" doctors and are "less of" a doctor than MDs. The sad thing is that this actually matters to families when couples decide to marry.

Trust me unless you have the GPA and the MCAT score to go along with the culture, being Indian sucks. Its great if your smart and successful, its the worst culture to be a failure in.

you don't sound very determined. demand a brahmin girl.

There seems to be a pretty huge Indian crowd on SDN, very nice!

lololol I've seen that episode. That **** was intense.

I guess my worst story is when my dad caught me talking to a dude on AIM, and took away my laptop and phone for 6 months. The guy was actually my boyfriend at the time, and we had been talking about some scandalous stuff. I spun it so that he didn't know it was my bf, but he talked to the guys parents, went through my phone bills, everything. It's so much worse with Indian girls 🙁

LOL!!!!

having parents like this is the reason why indians in america are probably the most productive and valuable citizens bc their parents make sure their kids make something of themselves and demand perfection.

also there are a lot of Indian and asian girls in med school. I would post some pictures of them for you if it didnt give away my school (and it wasnt creepy/wrong to do) but a lot of them are very pretty indeed.

one of the girls tells me stories of how strict her parents are and it makes me lol.

Get on that cbrons, before they all get arranged marriages. Lock one in! 🙄

Nah I'm already taken. She's Romanian... where the dragons are from.

 And the land of all those vampires in Transylvania...make sure shes not a biter 😉

Are you Indian? If so, how do your parents feel about you dating someone non-Indian (assuming they know)? I think mine would have a heart attack. My mom almost had one when she found out my ex was from a different STATE of India than where we were from

It's okay ,
if you don't want to marry the girl that you arranged with ...
sit with her dad and tell him that you have AIDS ..
everything will be provoked and you will be fine ..
😎

Gah... my mom tried to set me up. I told her I I wasn't getting married until I'm 26/27/28 and she flipped her lid. Supposedly, I'm insane to have turned down such a good guy ... :smack:. I was 21 at the time and there was no way I was getting married so young. Then they said that I could get engaged and wait until I was ready to get married- kind of like lay away for a groom. The answer was still a no. Parents were pissed but they got over it.

I know tons of Indian DOs who are happy with their decision

Yea the ones on TV don't count. What planet are you from? Ive never met an Indian DO, just tons of MDs and they aren't as respected. Are you like half Indian or something lol? Because thats not the same at all......

Change your attitude, bro. You aint going anywhere near a girl with that.

There isn't any attitude, its logic. Im 21 bro, lets face it, I'm pretty old for a noob. It ain't happening at a place like med school, haha guys there will know what they're doing.

You don't sound very determined. Demand a Brahmin girl.

Nah if I'm getting an arranged marriage, its gonna be with an Afro-Indian. Ive always wanted to have one.

Keep your head up

Why? Most Indian chicks in med school would be taken anyway. Its the whole "I need to find a bf now and settle down otherwise I can't study for my USMLE" fear. Add to family pressure and I bet 99% come in with relationships from undergrad, and the ones there already.....well I'm sure they're all set.

Dude, with your stats, you wouldn't even get in a DO or foreign med school, so relax and go study or something.

My parents are more chill now, but before they'd get worried if I talked about a girl outside their race lol. I guess they just trust my judgement now.

Parents said I'm not settling down til 25. Because that's when they said ill be able to make a judgement lol

It's ok. My parents still won't let me drive when there's snow on the ground or let me get on the interstate. Sigh.

HAHA OMG I THOUGHT THIS WAS JUST ME. My dad still has trouble letting me drive when its dark or rainy snowy, even though I've been driving for 6 years with no tickets or accidents. I'm apparently not allowed to drive on the highway either.

I also still have a curfew of 11pm 🙁

I have a curfew of home when I don't have a legitimate excuse to be out... 😕

Yeah, I'm a senior in high school, and after a straight A semester I got a curfew of 9 PM. x/

I had a later one before, it's just so derp.

Having a curfew is such a bad thing. More studying!! :woot:

Huzzah! *brick'd*

I'm really glad I decided to go with pharmacy. I can still be a professional without giving up all my twenties to my career. That, and I love chemistry.

Less plugging and chugging for me compared to you all. I could never be a physician, I love the concept of helping people but they're so exhausting... XD

One of my friends is in an arranged marriage, though she consented to it for naturalization status. Yeah it's a loophole around waiting forever for residency status/citizenship but she did it when she was 17 so that she could go to college.

On another note, my dad tried to "arrange a marriage" and this is basically what I was told... "Look, she doesn't speak English well, she goes to school in Australia, and to be honest she isn't that pretty...BUT, her dad is extremely rich, and well...you're not getting anywhere in life (I was in the Marine Corps at the time -_-), so you might as well."

Well, you're obviously proving him wrong if you're going to be a doctor.

Also, thank you for your service to our country. Semper Fi!

Love the support lol.

When I went to bed yesterday, I was hoping you would post. Thanks for the

That sucks. Luckily we have no curfews. There's girls here whose parents are super strict and I feel bad for them. I couldn't live with parents who were suspicious of everything I did. Getting permission to go out when your older then 20 is absurd. I think it's because all my siblings are close in age so it's too hard for our parents to track us, not necessarily due to them being liberal.

No Im not Indian. thank god

Swear to god, if I didn't decide to go in to medicine, my parents would have made me marry someone by the time I was 20. Now I'm 22 which according to Cambodian rules, it's considered old to be married at this age and my mom told me men will not desire me anymore because I'm not fresh....WTF does that mean?!? I am still perfectly FRE$H!!!! 😡😡

Edit: Also they would like me to marry a Caucasian man because they really want biracial grandchildren. I swear the things they come up with lmao

Hahaha. I am sorry that you are still fresh.

I remember when I was 16, and I was still fresh. 🙄

Sorry, I had to pick on you. No hard feelings?

Ahhhhh wish my parents were like that! i'm attracted to every type of guy out there except for brown guys, and my parents insist on keeping it in the culture. and biracial kids are too cute!

Are you Cambodian too? lol

Cambodian too or no?
I love bi racial kids too I think they are so exotic looking. But common now, there's no way we can ever pick and choose who we fall for. If we can pick and choose I call Ryan Gosling!! 😛

I'm not pre-med but this thread is hilarious.😆😆😆

My dad told me he was going to start looking for guys for me. I told him that was fine but I would lie and tell every one of those guys that I'm a lesbian
