Hi,
I'm going to be applying to med school next cycle (summer 2018), but I wanted to speak with my letter of recommendation letters before I leave my undergraduate institution.
I believe that giving them my med school personal statement would be helpful in writing. I don't have that written yet, because I'm not applying until next cycle (I'll probably write it next fall).
So the only thing I could really give them right now would be my resume.

Do you think it would be a good idea to explain this to them, and then ask if I could reach out to them next year after I have written my personal statement?

I am assuming that you will be asking for academic letters of recommendations from professors you have taken classes with before. If this is the scenario then I don't think your personal statement will help much with their letter of recommendation as they should be focusing on writing about your academic skills and performance rather than your history or motivations for becoming a doctor which is demonstrated in your PS. However, it's your choice, OP. All recommendations are different but the ones you will be getting from your professors should be focused on talking about your academic performance.

Oh, this is a good point. I only asked because after looking around, I noticed that some people give their writers a personal statement. I thought this seemed like a good idea, but what you say is probably true

And yes, it is for an academic letter
