Hi everyone,
what are some good pre-med art courses that a science student could take that would be beneficial in the long run (e.g. interview or application processes, mcat, medical school). It would be nice if they arnt a gpa killer either since Im not too strong in english and writing essays. Thanks.

There really aren't any specific courses that are going to give you any kind of advantage. Just take what you're interested in, and do well in it.

This is probably not the answer you're looking for, but the most beneficial art course is the one you're most genuinely interested in. If you're not taking the course for the right reason, you can't talk about it meaningfully in the PS or during interviews. Plus, it's easier to do well in a course you actually like. Are you into Renaissance art? Ancient Greek and Roman art? Italian Baroque? Impressionism? Contemporary?

In terms of which one's the easiest to boost your GPA, that will vary depending on the university, professor, etc. I would ask people at your school and/or check ratemyprofessors.com. I would assume that lower-level art courses require less writing, if that's a concern for you. However, you'll be more prepared for the MCAT if there's more reading involved (not just textbooks but articles in which the author is trying to argue something about art).

Do you mean Art of Art history?

For actual art classes, Anatomy for Artists would be the most directly applicable art class for med school but any studio class i.e. drawing, painting, sculpture is good for your soul 🙂👍

Whoah, you guys have an Anatomy Art class? I wish my school offered that; I would totally take it!

Oh, and I assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that the OP was referring to art history courses because he/she mentioned writing essays, which I didn't think you were required to do in Art classes.

took ceramics for a gen ed requirement, loved it 👍

I think I might take ceramics, but I usually just make art as a hobby (spray-paint art)

I've heard that taking photography classes really helps with your verbal score. I think I saw a study once.

I wanna do that, that'll be cool if there was a class for it

It would be cool, but its very easy to do once you get the hang of it. You need to move fast though so the paint doesn't dry.

Here is my latest one:

You should also watch some youtube videos to get started as well

If by art you mean non science, take English classes and speech classes that will help your verbal reasoning and comprehension skills for mcat, composition of your personal statement, and help your speaking skills for your interview.

Take my advice with a grain of salt because I am a non trad that has not applied yet, but in my life I have realized that the ability to communicate and form a well written sentence will open a lot of doors.

A 500-level philosophy course should impress your interviewers. I heard that if you get an A in one of those you are pretty much guaranteed admission into med school.

In all seriousness, though, philosophy can be pretty stimulating. Just don't take ethics - total snoozefest.

Stimulating? There are philosophers and boys.

Agreed on ethics. Oh god... and the feminists butt in when they can.
