I will be starting dental school in the fall, I haven't always had the best teeth - (many cavities throughout childhood and early teens + slight crowding)

say I have a cavity.. or want Invisalign.. would I be able to be a patient at the school ? would I get free treatment? lol

Not free but much cheaper. The D4 and D4 students need patients like you from what I understand and in return you get cheaper rates than what a practicing dentist would do.

In our school you usually can get free fillings/prophy done by D3, D4, and a discount price for invisalign/braces.

It isn't free but generally less expensive than other options.

IMO I'd want to have my teeth worked on by someone who's had a few years of practice. After seeing some D3s/D4s do work... I'm headed to private practice.

At my school we get all our treatment free from D3s and D4s. The only things we have to pay for is fixed and removeable but we get 50% off for those. If you get your treatment done in specialty clinics you have to pay but we also get 50% off of all procedures in the speciality clinics.

Yeah, why not? Depends on the procedure but I wouldn't have an issue with it. There is faculty there to oversee just in case.
Sorry, I meant I would rather choose someone with more experience. Depends on the procedure I guess.

Would bonding or veneers be cheaper? Or is that pretty expensive regardless because it's cosmetic?

I actually went to our grad prosth clinic before the break and asked about veneers (porcelain). They said typically they're 600-700 per veneer but dental students here get 50% off so it's more like 300-350 each.

Dang that's cheap. I hope Michigan has those prices...

That's a steal. Wow.

What the heck, thats cheap.

Aren't you a first year? Do you really think you're qualified to assess the work of fellow students in clinic when you haven't touched a real tooth at all?

I've seen a fair number of patients... several hundred.

There are some students that have great hand skills and do fantastic work. Others clearly need more practice. After a few years of practice, I'd wager that most have had enough practice to really hone in their skills and that raises the standard. If I want work done in my mouth, I don't want things to just be clinically acceptable, but to also look great and be done very well.

Dude we go to the same dental school. You did not see several hundred patients as a D1 or D2.

lol

I was a full time dental assistant for 3 years before applying (and attending) dental school. I worked under 30 or so dentists, so I saw quite a bit of dental work under doctors who've had different years of practice... I really find it odd that what I am saying is contentious. Seems like it would be clear that someone who has had years of more experience has something to show for it?
