At ASA 2015 - has anyone else seen the propaganda loop on the hotel shuttle buses? What little faith I had in the organization was shattered.
Are they still pushing for leadership of the perioperative surgical home or is that not a big focus this year?
Maybe they realized that the surgeons that don't want us to even give a single toradol dose aren't going to hand over the reigns for post op management of their surgical patients.
Solid confrence.
Seems like they are going all out with psh, but I am liking this hire from Derm land...
RVS Update Committee (RUC) recommendation process ...with an exceptionally high acceptance rate from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

ASA Announces New Perioperative Surgical Home (PSH) Executive
10.27.15
For the past four years at the American Academy of Dermatology, Fischoff strategically directed the development and dissemination of guidelines and appropriate use criteria, identification and development of practice management resources and the creation of a culture of quality within dermatology through the development of performance/outcome measures, patient safety resources and access to care tools, including the Academy’s telemedicine platform. Prior to her work at the Academy, Fischoff spent eight years at the American Medical Association where she managed the AMA Specialty Society/RVS Update Committee (RUC) recommendation process including the development of more than 1,800 recommendations for physician work, practice expense and professional liability insurance with an exceptionally high acceptance rate from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

PSH had a large presence.
It wasn't the message of the videos that killed me (that was done already). It was the delivery. I felt like they weren't even taking the viewer seriously. The videos had terrible production value. Compounding that, watching many of the society's leaders speak was simply painful. I know that not everyone is a gifted orator, but it is part of the core job description for most of these positions.
If you can't do it well in front of a home-team interviewer when you're on-script, I do not trust you to do it well in front of lawmakers and other policymakers
I guess they gave up on fighting CRNAs.
Just curious - what are you doing to change things?
dont waste your time.I've written for the ASA newsletter (distillations of policy issues like the VA nursing handbook rule) and recently had an article in a major trade magazine discussing some of the hidden costs of midlevels. I have gone to my state's capitol to lobby lawmakers directly. Considering taking a year to do ASA's (or other) policy fellowship.
I'm a second year medical student, though, so I'll readily admit that don't have much in the way of influence. I certainly hope to eventually, though.
Kudos for getting involved! 1 out of 3 ain't bad!My summary of the ASA. Great location the staff at the San Diego convention center were excellent. The lectures had a ton of informative material. Their also was a pretty good app that helped make attending the lectures smoother. Areas of improvement their needs to be online access to video content. Plus the CME counter needs work. And too many people glued to their iphones. I wanted to hear more at ucsd, or at mayo we, or in montreal we do....
Solid confrence.
You should take the AANA Policy Fellowship instead. It's obviously a lot better than the ASA fellowship.why? I mean, I get -why-, but would like to hear your thoughts as well?
Oh, that there is funny. Sad but funny. You should take the AANA Policy Fellowship instead. It's obviously a lot better than the ASA fellowship.
