I plan on attending, I am an MSIV. This will be my first time and I was wondering if there are any forums, events, etc for medical students. Maybe a residency fair? I looked on the website and found nothing. Any info would be helpful, thanks.

Are you a FAER fellow or you're just going on your own? If you're a fellow, they do have special events for us. Even if you're not, maybe you could still go to the FAER events if you're interested. Here's a link to the webpage that tells about them: http://faer.org/medicalstudents.php?section=Symposium&PHPSESSID=4f04f038d532370b35f7901ad8a13a9b There's a number on that webpage if you want to call them.

Thanks...I'm goin to the website. I'd be just coming on my own.

Sleep-

I'm on my own too. Get enough of us together, and we're no longer alone.

I plan on just cruising; I have some things that I signed up to do, but other than that I'm just gonna take in the sights.

Good point bigdan. I'm goin to just be there, looking around the city, hoping to get a little insight on the residency process while there, and having a good time. When are you heading up?

Should be there sometime late Friday, then stay to roll out on Tuesday.

I actually have responsibility too - a couple of posters to present, but I also signed up for some of the "refreshers", just to hear some heavyweights talk. I plan on getting a bunch of pens, too.

Has anyone been before?
I am a MSII and considering attending. Is there much that I will be able to understand/participate in?

To those who are attending, send a loud and clear message to the leadership that the members want action, not more talk. Enough is enough!

I'm in my second year also. I think there will be enough things that we can get something out of. My preceptor was helping me pick talks to go to. I'm sure I won't understand everything either, but he was very emphatic that I should definitely go and especially to hear certain talks that relate to what we were working on this summer.

Is there anything FUN actually going on at these meetings? Or is it just lectures and symposiums...

Sounds good...It will give me a nice break in the middle of two of my away rotations. Do they have set events or places to go at night or are we just on our own?

Also curious as to the answer to PuttinEm2Sleep's question.

For the medical students going, are your departments funding you or are you going on your own accord and cash? Either way, what are you figuring the trip to run you in total?

we get $1400 a year to use on educational things like going to conferences, etc. So, Yale will pay the bill for me this trip. It could be close to $1000 when you add in hotels, flights, food, and courses.

FAER reimburses us up to $1000 and then my host department is going to cover anything over that. Just my plane ticket and hotel is likely to use up most of the $1000, so it will probably be a few hundred more for food and other expenses. Like supahfresh said, it's not a cheap trip. I don't think most people could afford to go by themselves. I certainly couldn't!

Supahfresh, have you registered for courses? I was kind of surprised to see that they charge for some of them.

Umm the conference is free if you are a medical student and member of the ASA. My school isn't funding a thing. Not that much money to pay for a hotel room though.
