So did anyone attend? Any revelations when you met with your representatives?

I went.

It was my first time going... I definitely took a lot from the presentations.

My group met with the health liaisons for both the Representative for my district and one of our Senators. For the most part they listened to our concerns and didn't make a ton of promises either way other than to pass the issues along.

I was there too (second time). I'll post about it (in detailed fashion) in the private forum later tonight. In short, please consider joining/contributing to the ASAPAC. Also, consider attending next year's conference (register via your state society) if you have an interest in the political and regulatory issues relevant to our field.

It's a shame if your group wasn't able to meet with some of Representatives or Senators personally. I've been twice, and out of 8 Congressional visits in those two years, only twice did we see just the health liaisons. The guy who is the lobbyist for our state society does a great job setting up these visits. We usually have something with every Rep and both Senators spread out all day on Wednesday.

They definitely never promise anything. The thing to remember is that right before you and right after you, there is someone else in their office telling them why they need this or that, and why it's more important than what anyone else might want.

JWK, the issue was that Congress wasn't in session during the conference. As such, many people met with legislative aides. Although its certainly not the same as speaking with the congress person directly, there's still certainly some merit in meeting with the legislative aide.

Too bad. I agree, meeting with the LA's can certainly be interesting as well. They are certainly well-informed on most issues, as well as frequently, surprisingly, very young.

Off topic but there was an AA from Georgia at the Committee on Governmental Affairs meeting; I was wondering if it was you (didn't have the chance to introduce myself) but it sounds like you weren't there this year.

Yep, I didn't make it this year. My son was graduating from college, so I had other plans. I think there were probably at least eight AA's there this year.
