So-I am trying to choose where I should apply to, and I talked to a friend of mine at ASDOH. They said that this year the D2's are getting only 2 weeks off for their summer break. I thought that was pretty stingy considering that even UOP gives their students 3 weeks off and they are a three year school. So what do you think? Is it worth it to attend a school that has a lot of great things about it, yet hardly gives you any break at all? p.s. google ron paul2008

The length of a single school quarter break is not indicative of that school in general.

But, if for some reason this one factor makes you think ASDOH may not be a good match for you, then don't apply. There are good and bad things about every school, but you need to pick your battles. If having 2 weeks off instead of 4 or 6 or whatever is an issue for you during the summer between 2nd and 3rd year, then don't apply. It's your decision. At some schools, this is a factor if their students tend to take boards right after 2nd year and thus need a longer break to study, but this isn't usually the case at ASDOH.

Personally, I think it is a relatively minor issue and would base my decision on where to apply on other issues.

Some of the schools like to get their students into the clinic ASAP after 2nd year is over with, you might want to check how heavy the load is that summer. If I recall correctly ASDOH kids take boards after first year, so it may not be a priority.

As far as ditching a school because it's breaks aren't long enough, it's all about your priorities. If you don't think 2-3 weeks is enough to recharge, then don't apply. It will all seem pretty minor soon, I don't even know what I'm going to do when I get my 3 weeks. Last break we had I felt like all my hand skills went away and that was only a week, I can't imagine the 3 months some people get.

the reason the D2 summer got cut short is because we are getting into the clinic at the very beginning of our D3 year. they need clinic coverage, and this allows us more operative experience in the long run.

If your biggest concern about which school you apply to comes down to how long you get for summer break then maybe dental school isn't for you. 😉

Seriously I am just happy to go to Dental School....

You'll have MANY other experiences at ASDOH that will make up for the lack of summer break you may or may not be getting. Once again, I thoroughly enjoyed my ASDOH education and would do it again if I could.

how long of a summer break after the first year of asdoh

I think first summer break is about six weeks because you have to take your part of one of your boards during that time.
