I going to the ASHA Convention in San Diego next week and I'm so excited about it! Being an undergrad, I'm sure I'll be a minority among the mostly SLP professionals and grad students, but I think it will be a great experience and opportunity to meet others- professionals and students alike- in my field of interest. What I'm most looking forward to is the grad school fair because it will give me an opportunity to learn about AuD programs from all over the US and talk with professors from those programs that I will soon be applying to. I'm not sure yet where I'm applying, and I'm hoping this fair will really help me decide on schools and locations that might be a good fit for me.

Is there anyone else going this year? Or has anyone who has been in recent years want to share any tips?

I've been the past few years and will be there again this year. I have found the graduate fair to be a good opportunity to meet faculty from a lot of different schools without having to travel to all of them. This is especially important if you are interested in schools not near to where you are currently. The convention has most of the audiology sessions together, some may be over your head but I still think you can get some benefit out of them. NSSLHA is hosting NSSLHA day Friday and will have some sessions geared specifically towards GRE and grad school admissions. They may also be useful to you.

Saving up for AAA in Boston in March. Much better meeting for audiologists. Seems like only a handful of audiologists attend ASHA while AAA has 7,000 or so audiologists. Also, all the academic programs for audiology represented at AAA and the Student Academy of Audiology has a meeting. Much better than speech meeting.

Yes, I would guess AAA is better for audiology students without a doubt, but I missed it this year. Back in the spring I wasn't far enough along in my grad school process or prepared enough to go to a convention like that. I might be there in 2012, but by that time it will be too late for me to be researching programs for application; I might even know where I'm going by then (that's an exciting thought!). I'll keep it in mind because I definitely think attending AAA would be be a good experience even if I already know where I'll be going in the fall.
