ASHP Summer Meeting?

I was wondering if anyone here is planning on going or has gone to the ASHP Summer Meeting? I am still a pre-pharm, but with any luck I will be a newly accepted pharmacy student by June 2008, which is when the Summer mtg is. Is the purpose of these meetings really just job-hunting and/or CE's for practicing pharmacists? Is there any use for me to go if I'm considering applying for an intern position? Or do I just wait until I'm a 3rd or 4th year and am looking into residencies and go the Midyear? Thanks everyone!

You're not looking for a job nor CE... so save your money and time and avoid summer meeting till you're practicing.

Go to midyear every year...to party!! Then go to midyear during 4th year to scope our residency then party.

Not much student activity at all. It's in Chicago this year and I plan to be there. Because I have friends in Chigago.. good reason right? 👍

Definitely a good reason. Plus, Cubs/White Sox at Wrigley later that week, wouldn't be a bad ticket to get.

Yes.

Much less activities and virtually no students or residents. Fairly acadmemic with more "pharmacist" concerns and issues being presented. Actually I don't enjoy it at all. But I go to network with my collegues.

Fair enough. I'm going more as an excuse to get to Chicago, but the website mentions a new student program that they're starting this year. It's on the weekend before the actual convention, so it gives me a perfect reason to get myself a vacation.

Well, student program during the Summer session will be something new I guess. Because it's in the summer, most students aren't interested in coming. And Midyear timing is horrible... because most students are in their finals. I wish they would change that and we'll get more student participation..not just the 4th year's but everyone.

I agree. I really want to go to Vegas next year, but I'll need a few miracles to not have any tests that week.
