Do you have any advice for those of us still on the premed path?
Don't worry about any particular specialty at this point. Worry about getting into medical school first.
Most people end up changing their minds several times while they're in medical school. I went through several different specialties while in medical school before deciding on Derm. Never would've guessed I'd end up a Derm resident if you had asked me prior to med school.
Best advice is to keep working hard to be the best premed student possible, which will hopefully afford you the chance to work hard to be the best medical student possible. Working hard and doing well will set you up for success in just about any field.
In the meantime, it doesn't hurt to get some shadowing in various fields to get a better idea what they're about, even if you're not far enough along yet to really appreciate a lot of what they're doing.
Keep taking things one step at a time. Once you're in medical school you can start to think about what to do to narrow your specialty choices. Good luck.
