Well since you're already accepted to the program and assuming you plan on attending, the coursework should be entered as "Current/Future" graduate coursework on AMCAS. As for mentioning the program to schools you applied to, there are a couple ways you can do it. I frankly believe that your last resort is putting it in the personal statement if you have not completed the program yet. Your PS has too little real estate to say "hey BTW, i'm doing this program and I don't know how I'll do but I hope to do well, etc." Saying what you're going to do is far less important as saying what you've done, which is why I would definitely put it in the PS if you had just completed the program (as I did myself, since I waited to apply after the SMP). But just not before you start.. Just my opinion, but it wouldn't be my first choice. Putting it in AMCAS (other than the coursework section) is hard, because you have no place to explain that this is an SMP and not a regular 2-year science masters. However, many schools (though not all) may recognize it.. Your best bets are putting it in a secondary application, or simply sending a letter or email to the admissions committee or Dean of admissions at any school you apply to and in the letter, explain the SMP, why you feel you need to do it, and most importantly, request this letter/email to be part of your application file! This is not an uncommon thing to ask, so I'd be shocked if you receive significant resistance from the schools on this (although in this damn admissions process, you just never know haha). So I would explain in a secondary if there's space to, and if not, send a letter/email. Someone mentioned having Dr. Banks write one...I don't think that's appropriate for a letter of intent to start the SMP. Use his letters for updates AFTER you've started the SMP, such as after your first and second exam weeks...his letters not only state how well you're doing, but also talks about what the program is...killing two birds with one stone. Lots of options, some might be better than others, but the bottom line is that you need to tell the schools that you're in this program, describe (briefly) the program, and notify them to expect update letters regarding your progress. Good luck and let me know if I can answer any more questions! You'll thoroughly enjoy the program and you're coming in at a good time (before the major curriculum change coming to UCCOM).
P.S. I don't check this as often as I used to, especially during the summer, so bear with me...
