Hi everybody. I noticed interest in the discussion with both the resident/intern from general and vascular surgery and the neurosurgeon, and wanted to offer some insight on what being pre-med entails. Feel free to ask away regarding whatever questions you may have from the general "what we do" questions to how to how to lay plans to succeed, I'll try to check back and get to each of your questions, feel free to PM me for anything you don't want to ask in a public forum.

Where is my blue crowbar? I haven't been able to find it for months, and I've looked everywhere.

I really like to watch Dragon Ball Z, like 4 hours a day. Is this considered a good extracurricular? I should have close to 2000 hrs. do you wear a lab coat on campus so people know you're pre med?

I think this is better suited for hSDN, since most of the people on here are pre-meds.

Well, I lawd, especially the "do I wear my white coat around campus so people know that I am premed," lol!

I'll bite...

Researches have created a drug that can increase your intelligence by 10%/dose. This drug has horrible side effects. With each dose of this drug, your physical attractiveness is reduced by 20%, and the "smelliness" of your BO is increased by 30%.

Would you take this drug? If so, how many doses of this drug would you take?

All of it. All of the doses.

-2/10, go post this in the high school section and have a blast

When did you know you wanted to become a medical assistant?

He made a post in "what are my chances thread" saying his gpa is a 1.5 with an upward trend and said he's applying to Yale and Harvard

Ok I have a serious question though. I was looking at the requirements for medical schools (currently a freshman in college) and saw that I need a full year of inorganic chemistry. I didn't know this before I scheduled my classes for this year, so I used the credit I got through my AP test score so I'm only taking the lab part of General Chemistry I. The question is: do med schools prefer if I actually take the class, or does it not really matter since I'm going to end up taking higher-level Chemistry classes anyway?

Thanks

Higher level of chem is fine, assuming this isn't a double troll.

OP maybe you can tell me my chances...I have a 2.9 bcpm gpa, but I have excellent LORs (I haven't read them, but I'm the funny guy, so my professors love me) and great ECs (I pretended I was a surgeon for a few months and successfully did a wicked lot of awesome surgeries). Assuming I get a 45 in the MCAT, do you think I can get into Harvard? I've done practice tests and got in the mid 20s, but my friend said that those are way different then the real test, so I'm not too worried.

When is the application deadline to be a pre-med? I applied really late last year and I got rejected by 29 programs. I've got really good extracurriculars (NHS, varsity baseball), but I don't know if I should do more.

Arent you that premed who wants to destroy competition by going to podiatry school? When do you plan to massage our feet?

Lmao!

OP I have a 15 MCAT and a 1.8 gpa with excellent EC's, I volunteer for my school's football team and I also am a DJ in my spare time. I want to go to Harvard so bad! So, what you thinking OP???

That your jokes suck

by inorganic chem they mean gen chem.

There is an inorganic chemistry series known as p-chem. Chemistry majors see it, and it's no joke. Never seen it required for med school, though.

Actually, physical chemistry and inorganic chemistry are very different. But as muhali3 said, when medical school say inorganic chemistry, they mean general chemistry (as opposed to organic chemistry which is another requirement).

Could any expert guide me how and what are the colleges those who accept students on international visa (F1)status . I am about to complete my High school from Albany, New York and would to get into Pre-med and then Medical college. I am about to change my status from H4 visa to F1 visa. I have talked few colleges they are not accepting international student in medical school. Please let me know what colleges are accepting F1 visa status student after MCAT.

I'm 100% sure that OP knows the answer to your question.

What MCAT score (include subsection scores) would you personally need to not retake?
