asking for advice for OMFS

If you are in the middle of your class (class rank), 3.5 gpa, and say you got a 65 on CBSE, good LOR's, good EC's would you try and apply everywhere to see if you get any interviews or would you just go straight for the intern year and apply later?
I am basically trying to decide if I should spend all the $$$ on applying to a lot of programs with these stats. Do people ever match with stats like that?

shoot for 70+. But I think it doesn't hurt to apply this cycle. you never know. in the long run, 1 application cycle cost-wise is a drop in the bucket. could be a lost year of income for all you know as well. just be realistic and apply broadly.

I think you should get at least a few interviews, however keep in mind that everyone has been locked indoors studying for the past 3 months, I expect the average CBSE score to shoot up this cycle, so there's that.

I definitely agree with this ^^^ - If you don't apply at all, you definitely won't get any interviews to have the chance to match.

You think this cycle and not next? I was thinking more for next cycle they'd go up.

I'm really interested to see if the averages go up...its been a mixed bag from the people I've talked to. Some have been super productive, while others are struggling to stay motivated and avoid wasting time. It seems almost perfectly split from my small sample size.

From the few that I've spoken too, I've been getting the same vibes.. guess we'll have to wait and find out!

I think the opposite. A lot of people find it difficult to study at home and are lacking motivation during these times (at least I am heheh) I just bought mortal kombat for the switch which wasn't my brightest move

True. To clarify I mean the competitive scores to shoot up. Just how 75 has become closer to the new norm vs 65 a few years ago.

The CBSE, which is a shortened version of the USMLE Step 1, is not "curved" the way you think it is.
It's an exam that is scored based on the amount of information you're able to master. If you look at the average USMLE Step 1 scores, you'll see that it has risen over the years (Average of 215 in the year 2000, with it being around 230 now).
The "curve" for the CBSE is retrospective, as it compares you to medical students, not just the average dental student that are sitting with you on that particular exam day.
With more time just sitting around and having more free time, I would predict that those who are dedicated enough will spend the months studying, and we will get more scores 200+ (70+ on previous scale) than prior cycles.
