Hey guys. I have not written my PS yet and I wanted to ask for referene letters before I write it. i also have an updated cv. Are people in general giving their personal statemet to their letter writer?

Regards,

Nah - go for the letter as early as you can. You control the speed with which your PS gets completed; you have no control over the letter writers, so get that LoR as soon as you can.

I got my first letter as a 3rd yr, long before I knew we needed a PS for residency.

Bring your CV and you'll be fine, in my experience at least.

you can ask without giving any supplemental papers to them.

i hate giving letter writers the CV and PS, because they end up having nothing to say and just copy stuff from the cv and ps.

i've seen crappy ones where the writer said "student X got a 250 step 1. he got an A in the rotation. I recommend him".

well no chit. I didn't need your letter to see that he got a 250 and A grade. 👎
