Asking for status update with no update letters?

I sent update letters back in October explaining why I'd be a good mission fit as well but no responses. Completed my app in July. Should I email asking for a status update, and how should I phrase my email? I don't have new updates and already talked about mission fit in detail previously

I am going to be completely honest. Do not email for a status update. The cycle is super long and schools have thousands of applicants. They most likely will give u a basic answer that won’t provide much clarity. It’s better to just wait.
