So I guess you could say the prodigal son has returned.. I once abandoned the notion of becoming a MD, but the desire can't be suppressed. So, I wish to use this as a sounding board for my options for returning to school. I currently have my ASN and work as an RN.

1) I considered returning to school earning my BSN(RN-BSN) and then finishing the pre-reqs for med school and applying. Now to me this option seems a little time consuming if my main goal is Med school.

2) Earn a degree in another field of study. Maybe the prototypical Biology or something similiar. Of course, I believe both routes would take the same amount of time. But I think I would be a little better prepared in terms of the sciences with this route.

ASN to MD? Of course Asians become doctors all the time.

I think getting a BSN won't improve the rest of your application. You are already a nurse with clinical experience. If your end goal is truly to become a physician, then further dedicating yourself to nursing by upgrading to a BSN is illogical.

In my opinion, it'll probably be better to get a bachelor's degree in another field of study. Delving into biology may expose you to cool research opportunities, and you'd not be taking a spot from someone who is seriously pursuing BSN as a final career goal.

...never hurts to have a backup plan. If you never want to work as a nurse again and, even if medicine fell through, you'd want to get out of nursing, then obviously there's no point in getting a BSN. That said, the majority of applicants don't get into med school in any given cycle so, y'know, practical degrees are a good idea.

Find your local state school that you can get your BSN and a second major in a science. Then you'll have lots of opportunities for clinical interaction, allow you to work a decent job if you don't get the first year. The second science major will cover most all you pre-reqs and show you can handle the coursework for medical school.

You should be able to get this done in 3 years or less depending on summers, coursework and transfer schedule.

The traditional path to medical school doesn't always have to be the only one.

Well.. I considered the Asian route but, I couldn't fulfill the pre-reqs before the cutoff date.. So until then...🙄

I appreciate everyone's feedback.. I think I would tend to agree with you iniquus.. In the big picture of things.. It does seem illogical. Considering the end I wish to reach.. And it seems BSN entails a lot of unnecessary course work if I wish to pursue medicine.. And money
