Hi, I'm an aspiring optometry student, and I would like to know what kind of high school GPAs the optometrists, and current optometry students, had.

I'm a sophomore in high school, and I would also like to know of anything I can do to make my application stand out more to any college optometry board.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I had a 3.9+ if I remember correctly...but to be honest with you I don't think it matters. The only place it matters is when you're applying to undergrad, but I think your SATs count for alot more.

Good luck!

Your High school grades dont matter. SAT scores arent that important for most schools. So just try to graduate from High school and go to either College or Uni. Then try hard.

Thanks for everyone who replied.

So, are you saying it's your undergraduate GPA that matters the most?
The reason why I'm asking this is because I know I can do the work in college, but my high school GPA took a hit in Math last year (didn't do so hot in Algebra), but I also skipped a grade for science, so I was hoping that it will balance out.

Hey, don't stress over it. I didn't get motivated in highschool until my junior year. My highschool GPA was a lousy 3.0 at graduation and I didn't do so well on the SAT. Still, I got into a decent college and did fine. Actually, only one of the five Optometry schools I applied to even asked for my highschool transcript and my SAT scores. In addition, I was accepted to that school regardless of my less than stellar highschool performance. Every other school considered only my undergrad. GPA and my OAT score. Hope this helps. -Good luck!

This helps a bunch.

I have heard that some schools don't really go much by your high school GPA, and this clears some of it up.

By the way, does anyone on this forum know anything about the optometry program at Ferris State university? I would like to go to that school, because it's in my state. Would Ferris be the kind of school that goes off of your high school GPA?

Again, thanks for the help🙂

Once you get in college, that highschool stuff doesn't really matter. You are thinking about this WAY too early. Only a handful of any kind of graduate level schools (grad school, med school, optometry, dental) will request something from your highschool.
