I am on my first rotation & have been assigned 2 textbooks to read in 4 weeks. The amount of material is really not feasible. We have a departmental exam for this rotation (not a shelf), & were told "Everything on the exam is in the textbooks."

Is it the norm to have such hefty reading assignments? Do most students actually attempt it? I am wondering if I should just go with a review book instead... it seems like that would be a more efficient way to learn the key points.

Any advice is much appreciated!

What rotation and what books?
Most likely? Study the review books (ie Blueprints or NMS etc). I never read textbooks from the field when i was on a rotation - you are a med student, not a resident. Unless it is an elective, in which case can you ask around what areas they stressed on the test last year and then read them in the textbook?

The rotation is OB/newborn. I was thinking about reading the relevant material from Blueprints OB/Gyn & Peds.

You might want to also read Boards and Wards (the ob and peds sections). Great book I used for step 3.
