Assigning empty LOR's slots

Ok guys, maybe some of you are in a similar position as I am.
I have already applied to programs with 3 LOR's.
My chair's letter isn't in yet, probably a couple of more weeks.
I understand I can assign a slot for my chair's LOR and send it to each program even before the letter is scanned to my profile. Programs will then have an empty slot in my downloaded profile.
When my chair letter gets in and gets scanned, will it be automatically be uploaded into that empty slot in my application profile ? or will that slot stay empty because programs have already downloaded it ?

Should I assign that empty slot to programs now and wait for the letter to be scanned in a couple of weeks ?
or
Should I wait for the letter to be scanned in a couple of weeks and then assign it to programs ?


Appreciate input from others with more experience.

Go ahead and list in in ERAS and assign it to programs. As soon as the letter is uploaded, it will be automatically downloaded by programs the next time they log on to ERAS.

Just to be clear: Assigning a non-existent (yet) letter on your end does nothing on my end. I will NOT know that there is a 4th letter coming, nor whom it is coming from. I will only see it when it is uploaded. No "slots" are created on my end.
