So, I ponied up and paid my ASTRO fees this year and submitted for reimbursement from my medical group. Out of the $640 I only got $544 reimbursed because ASTRO has a 15% lobbying fee?! Is this correct? Where do I find this information. I know it’s only $100 but I don’t wanna be a member every year for my whole career if $100 has to come out of my own pocket for 20 years 😒

Only doctors would complain about $100/year towards lobbying Congress. Do you know how much Big Pharma spends on lobbying?
Yeah, I know it’s petty. But also I don’t like that I can’t find a transparent breakdown of that fact on the website. But then again, I shouldn’t be surprised.

You mean ASTRO PAC? Used to be a separate payment, not bundled in with dues. Many of us disagreed with them for years, considering they didn't really lobby to help out Private practitioners who happened to work with urologists or own their own freestanding centers.

What has ASTRO done lately regarding workforce supply issues?

Most of the lobby fee goes to medical schools to support radiation oncology integration in the curriculum. Part of enhancing medical student interest.
Remember last year, when 4th years were soliciting bribes on twitter right before rank lists went out? Well.... money well spent!
