wait til you become a TA. all the cute girls will seem like they are after you and facebooking you, while all the ugly ones are annoying and "don't do as well on their exams"

i think we need to be asking the right questions here

if she wanted you to "earn" a LOR, would you?

I think the problem is the P.I. is a fantasy...haha

Are you saying that the OP is making this up? If you are, I agree actually. But even if she were actually flirting, why would that be bad? I would take the job solely because of this reason... well, actually, I would only do it if she were good-looking, so this is the ultimate issue here OP.

Are you sure she wasn't just being nice and kind to you but your vivid imagination made it out to be much more ? I can't count how many times have I heard from men that someone was being really flirtatious with them, only to find out the woman was simply being kind and lively.

lol pre-allo lurker

Actually, I can assure you that this is pretty real and surreal at the same time. I have decided, after much thought, to take the job anyway, because the LOR that would come from this collaboration would be immense.

pics or gtfo!

just sayin'

Yes, I think the OP is making her up.

That doesn't look like nicole kidman. Also, you find her pic under the staff page at your university. Also, it's all in your head.

The Adcoms LOVE to hear about your collaborations in college. Bonus points for erotic novel-esque details in your PS.

What if she does like you and makes that known to you, and you shoot her down as you plan to do? I can't imagine that'd be very good for you in terms of recommendations. Besides you don't want those kinds of distractions when you're in a work environment. You need to do your job to get a good letter. No reason to be all worried about whether she's flirting with you while you're pipetting something.

No PI who works at a medical school would be attacted to a premed when there are plenty of attendings (who are actually making money) around to pick from.

This is exactly what I was thinking. I don't think your interest for science and your 3.9 GPA gets her juices going... Just saying, a pre-med can't bring that much to the table.

This is the most ridiculous thread i've ever read......but my advice is simple. If you have been "turning down" hot girls all your life, you should have no problem turning down the hot PI......if you do a good job, u'll get a good letter regardless

Dear Admissions Committee,

I have had the pleasure of having Arjuna for four years. He is a stimulating individual that excels at arousing others, to think critically. Not only does he have a great pair of hands, he has the best pipette skills of anyone I have known. Plus, he demonstrates a strong upward trend.

Sincerely,

PI that kinda looks like Nicole Kidman, (Blank)

I second that! I seriously need something to spice up my day!

I like this thread a lot

and whoever posted that link of "hot PI." holy crap, i totally agree. it just isn't a site you see everyday, or ever, in a lab.

Some people just have personalities like the one you described

If she is good looking I'm 99% sure she is not interested in you (even though she may be physically attracted to you) because it is typically accepted that women like to date people older then them, and when they cannot get someone older then them they resort to younger people.

The other 1% would be if she is attractive and something is Psychologically wrong with her like in the cases where school teachers sleep with their students.

I don't know how to put it nicely, but she is neither attractive nor does she resemble Nicole Kidman (too much makeup, wrinkles, and I bet she's in her 50s)

Dearest Sarah,

I thoroughly enjoyed our meeting last X-day. I'd very much like to discuss your research interests more in depth. Perhaps we could meet at <insert romantic eatery> this Friday - my treat.

That is, of course, if your boyfriend doesn't mind. My girlfriend doesn't mind, because I don't have one. 😉 I find most women my age aren't career-oriented and are dumb.

Unfortunately, we cannot hold this meeting during your normal office hours because my side-jobs as a wealthy stock broker and superhero keeps me very busy.

Very fondly,
Johnny 😍

Umm, you sound like a very romantically inexperienced person. You can't possibly have the maturity level to tell if she's actually flirting with the intent for romance if you always shot girls down.

also, the whole "having an relationship jeopardizes ability to do well in school" is the biggest myth ever. a healthy relationship promotes emotional wellbeing of both people and allow you to do better in school.

Romantically inexperienced?? Maybe he prefers to be defined by becoming a doctor someday rather than by a relationship in undergrad school. As for the whole "a healthy relationship promotes emotional wellbeing of both people", lets actually see if we could even find someone in a healthy relationship. Then maybe we could ask them about their emotional wellbeings

So last week, during my interview with a lab PI, who is pretty young, I noticed she was being really flirty and stuff. It was pretty awkward for me, and I didnt know how to respond other than smiling and saying yes every other minute. I dont think I have ever seen someone so happy and nervous at the same time, and I kinda felt embarassed. It didnt help that she was from my university. Anyways, do you guys think it is advisable to take the job in this lab, now that I have been offered the position? Could it be beneficial in terms of LORs? Thanks a lot!

To whom it may concern,
Arjuna knows how to work it in the bedroom, hes a bad, bad boy. I highly recommend him for any position, if you know what I mean.

Sincerely,
Hot Lab PI

youre gonna get an awesome LOR if you work it right😉

if you never had a healthy relationship nor your friends do, you are either very young, or live a sad, sad life.

I truly pity you.

maybe gifted= op?

Anyways, is everyone this calculating? You are wondering if the PI being flirty will influence your LOR? This is all very silly.

I joined the site yesterday 4/10. Didnt post anything until today 4/11. Unless I needed a day to premeditate those few sentences then no, I did not join sdn to post in this thread 🙂

Im not so sure how you got that out of what I said but my meaning is that healthy relationships are rare in the lifespan of ones love life. If you are in a healthy relationship, its like any other living thing. It needs a lot of nurturing and attention to grow or stay healthy. There are trials and tribulations. Something a pre-med doesnt need to deal with. The fact that he is willing to sacrifice anything that could possibly compromise his chances of getting into med school is highly admirable. "If I never had a healthy relationship, I am very young or live a sad sad life"? I guess that statement would be true if I defined my happiness by the relationships Ive had but I don't.

haha, before we get into side bickering

how does a PI not have a PhD or a MD?

Guess again. I am not crazy enough to make another profile JUST to offer an alternative viewpoint. Gawd, you guys are truly another level of neurotic. Haha, talk about being suspicious. Whew!

My desi bhai, she's a "PHD candidate"; in case you dont know, they can be PIs too!

In order to get a good LOR, I think you need to be more worried about doing your job in the lab then whether or not your PI has a crush on you. I still wonder if you misread some signals, but even if she was flirting, I think she'd be professional enough to not let that kind of thing influence her when she writes you a letter 2 years from now.

I dont know if this has been heard by you before, but you look a lot like Hermoine Granger (aka Emma Watson)

I have always rejected advances from girls in college so far (not because I'm gay or an a** but cause I have more important things to worry about) and this was only special because I thought her "liking me" would lead to an amazing letter.
