Current/Future PCOMers,

I am highly unfamiliar with the Philly area and thus need some help when it comes to housing. My husband and I will be coming to look for a place in mid-june, but I want to come up with some sort of list. Friends from Philly have told me that for a married person, (ie already having a bulit-in roommate and wanting a decent amount of space), Manayunk or Conshohocken (sp?) are the best places to live. Does anyone know of good apartments in those areas or other areas that I should look? We were hoping to get something along the lines of a townhouse, or at least somewhere with 2 bedrooms to turn one into an office.

Thanks so much!
Claudia

Hi Claudia,

I'm a rising 2nd year and I live in Greenbriar apartments. Its practically down the street from PCOM campus. I chose Greenbriar b/c its cheap, close and very quite (theres tons of senior citizens). I mentioned this in the PCOM Class of '09 thread also, but whatever apartments you look for, make sure its "utilities included." Price of electricity can be very high in Philly, especially in the summer and winter months. At Greenbriar, all utilities are included...🙂

If you plan on moving to Greenbriar, please send me a PM. Take care!

I know of a great two bedroom apt in the Rittenhouse Square area (probably the nicest neighborhood in Philly and about a 10 minute commute to PCOM). PM me if you like.

Colonial Village Townhomes is in between Manayunk and Conshohocken. 15 mins from PCOM. 2 bedroom townhome is spacious and well laid out. $980/month plus electricity only. Electricity is about $85 when you don't run heat/AC and about $185 when you do. They're at 8875 Ridge Ave. PM me if you have questions.

I'm also a PCOMer 2009. It depends on what you mean by best places to live and what your price range is. My best suggestion to you is to go to apartmentguide.com or to try montgomerynews.com classifieds wynnewood area if you are looking to rent a house or town home. There are a lot of two bedroom options near campus. If you're looking to spend a little money there are a lot of med student/resident married couples with and without kids in 2 bedroom places in Executive House on City Ave 5-10minutes from PCOM. It does not include utilities which can be high with a/c but does have garage parking and a gym. Greenbriar, Duffield House, Imperial Towers-which includes utilites is close to cmapus, and has a garage, Presidential Apartments (lots of undergrads), and Lincoln Green (less than a mi from campus) rents town home/duplex type apartments with fireplaces and nice living area as part of a complex. If you're looking for something a little bit cheaper try Manayunk/Roxborough or King of Prussia area. That aparment guide website is really great. Post a reply to this is you have more questions.

You might want to try Lincoln Green, It is a little pricy, but worth it to me b/c it takes me less than 5 minutes to walk to school (I can see the rugby field from my balcony). Also check craigslist.org for rowhomes/apartments. You can get great deals renting from a landlord instead of a big complex. I'm starting 3rd year and am moving a little closer to the city and found a great place on the site. I'd look in the Manayunk/Roxborough/East Falls region, in addition to places along city line if you want to be close to the school.

You should check out the "PCOM class of 2009" thread, as myself and several others posted some detailed information on housing. In short, I would check out Greenbriar, Imperial Towers, Beekman Place, Duffield House if you want to be near school. Roxborough also offers some nice apartments if you don't mind a short drive (Ridge Carlton, Woodmere, Summit, Henry on the Park). Good luck

Hi Guys,

Thanks so much for all of the advice, I reall appreciate it. It's fantastic to get recommendations and far better than just groping around in the dark.

See you in the fall!
Claudia

We have a really inexpensive room opening in our house if anyone is interested ($350/ month).

We're 3 guys (2 soon to be MSIIIs and an MSII). The house is 2 floors and a basement, with everything, and it's walking distance to PCOM.
