The theme will be "Medical School: Challenges and Opportunities"
You can learn about medical school admissions, financial aid, and student life.
(Cool for us pre-meds.)
Admission is FREE.

What does that mean?•••••I believe it means that way they should include everybody who is non-white during the recruitment.....including asians and everybody else who doesn't quite fall into the minority folder (according to medical schools).

Most minority events are not to exclude non-minorities but instead the goal is "focused" on the minority population.
Just because the title states Minorities doesnt necessarily imply non-minorities are excluded!
So if you are non-minority, it does not mean you cannot attend- You Can!

What I was reffering to is that Asain and White are the main races that medical schools don't recruit on the basis of race. So while Columbia is having a minority recruitment fair, I believe they are not talking about asains as a minority, but rather under represented minorities. With white people making up the majority of the people in the united states, everybody who isn't white is a minority in that sense. So if Asains, who make up the second largest race in the US (I think. I don't have the facts for that one) are invited to the fair, then basically the only people who arn't invited are white people. I mean nothing offensive in any way shape or form in any of my comments (outside of being a little bit sarcastic towards JJ)

Ah I see your point - based on a technicality which is recruitment. But the it sounds like whites aren't invitied - which in fact I would guess everyone is welcome but minorities are sorted after to attend.
So if your interested Go - Asian and white included if your interested in columbia eventhough your ethnic orientation will not be a prime focus. However, your ambition and expected goals as a pre-med and Columbia Med. sch program will surely be covered throughly.

just leave it up, nobody minds.....some people don't check sdn everyday and most likely skim through to see anything interesting, so if you delete it they'll miss it.

By the way, Jalbrekt, Asians are not the second most represented race in the US. African-Americans (12%) and people of Hispanic or Latino descent (9%) make up much higher percentages of the US population than Asians (3-6%).
