I want to know from all you DAT takers who did their best and either did really well or not so well but could have.
I want to hear from you what you might have studied differently and used some resources that you missed out on or didn't had time or just didn't care!
We all DAT newbies would love to know.
Thanks 🙂

I am sorry if I offended you or anyone else. That was not my intention.
I only wanted to get all the folks who gave DAT in the past see this post and comment their knowledge and experience, that's all.

If I could I would have changed the name of the thread but I couldn't.
Nor can I delete the thread. But hey, at least it got your attention! The purpose of the Title just proved that it works, indeed 🙂

I did something really stupid on QR. I sucked it up hard and shouldn't have. I hadn't had a math course in over 10 years, so I studied a lot for this section. I'm fine with math, but I think unless you're fresh out of some trig or algebra, you can get a false sense of security thinking it's easy math. It's not the math that's killer. We would all ace it if we had 2 hours to work it out. It's about recognizing and attacking. This section is fast, and it's last. I used both DAT Destroyer and Math Destroyer and was doing really well on timed tests in Destroyer and on practice tests. I had laminated formula and identity sheets in the shower even.

On DAT day, I go too frazzled. I had a rocky start with switching stations, knowing I didn't do too hot on sciences, and then rolling through reading can fry your brain. My mind wasn't there, and that's not awesome. For any section, you gotta move on. You can't go fix anything, so don't think about reading passages that are long gone. The 45 minutes flew by. I was upset about the rest of the test and was taking the problems personally. I was taking 2 minutes on some problems (do the math, that's pure disaster). I had NEVER used the calculator when I practiced. I'm good at estimating. For some stupid reason, I decided to break it out. That's as stupid as it gets.

I know none of you are this stupid. But I'm just sharing.

Stay cool. Mentally move on if you know you sucked on a past section. And either commit to being a calculator person, or don't touch it.

Be comfortable or at least familiar with laminate sheets and dry erase markers. Maybe even with a dull flat tip in case you get an awesome person like I had. She misplaced my eraser for a few minutes when she moved my stations too.

First of all, thank you a lot for sharing your experience. I know it is hard to share it, but I thank you again for this info. At least now we can all be careful from our own or others mistake.
I hope you did good on that test or are you retaking it? If yes I am taking mine in 27 August, 2011. It's gonna be a hell of a ride 😉

lol... what the h*ll are you talking about?

incase you dont read the news. A martyr is someone who will die for their religion and is the term commonly used by terrorists abroad. especially when they die in the midst of a terrorist attack.

thats a stupid way of getting attention.

I think I have realized that after you pointing it out.
So have you taken your DAT yet? how did you do?
Any thing you want to share with us if you would have done differently to prepare for the test.

I haven't taken the test yet, BUT if I could change something, I would try to dedicate ALLL my time to the DAT. 🙂 I took 18 credits of classes this semester with a job... all while trying to study the DAT. It's not quite possible to be successful in that situation. Now that school is over, I have only 2 weeks to prepare... and it doesn't feel so good.

Another thing is...... DON'T, by all means, DON'T watch Chad's videos in fastplay the first time you watch. But if you have time to watch it a second time, then fastplay is A-OK 👍

Don't do Destroyer first. But review materials first, THEN do Destroyer (I learned this the hard way with General Chemistry).

Another thing is, don't get too addicted to StudentDoctor while you're studying, unless you have an honest question of course  You are using valuable studying time -cough-

Back to studying... Good luck to everyone! 🙂

my best advice-

-take it after you completed a year of ochem.
-start with the DAT destroyer book not Kaplan( they suuuuuck)
- Start lightly brushing up on all subjects, at least 4-5 month before you take the test
- (in my case) i took all of December and January off work for my exam on Jan 24. My finals ended the first week of December, I took 3 days of a break ( I got sick). After I got better I literally studied 12-14hrs a day, for 8 weeks during my schools winter break ( I planned it to where I missed my first week of the spring semester)
- Looking back I wish I would have done a lot more research on better DAT materials before beginning to study hard core, I was using the Kaplan at first once I got my hands on DAT destroyer and other books I threw my kaplan book in the garbage.

There is nothing inherently wrong about the word martyr. It is not offensive in this context at all (I dont think it is in the one you described either). SDN and the DAT has nothing to do with those who would end their life for a religious cause. I just think you're being way to sensitive & drawing connections that are not there.

at this time in american history thats not the right word to use.

I dunno guys... I was cracking up when I read the title.

To me it meant "suiciding personal & social life for the DAT"

I request the moderators to please delete this thread.
I meant it to be useful by getting people post their experience, and not argue about the literal meaning of the thread's title.
Thank you 🙂

I took my DAT just a little less than a month ago so hopefully my input is relevant. Lol I personally wish that I would have put more effort into the QR section of the test. And by more effort I guess I mean any at all. The only practice I ever did on that section was the three Topscore tests that I took and a little bit of basic trig function review from old highschool materials. I've heard multiple people say that really having the QR down is a pretty easy way to nab a few extra points to bolster your AA and it really is! Another area that I would focus more on personally would be the Perceptual ability section but I really think what got me was the angles section so I don't know how much more practice would have helped me there. Regardless, I feel that I only hindered my potential by chintzing and not dropping the money for Crack DAT PAT. to those that are still in the early stages of preparing for your tests, don't be too cheap and buy the best of every type of study material there is! Your return for doing well on your DAT will pay off multiple times what you spent on study materials. Lol good luck all!
